Consider this.. Vegas 9e works just fine on that same PC. But Vegas 9e is a new install. I’ll uninstall 10c and re-install 10c and see what happens. Bet that fixes it, whatever it was.

Regarding the mp3 issue. The video I was working with was a standard def avi file created by my HVR-s270 Compact Flash card. This file was copied to my hard drive before being placed on the Vegas 10c timeline. I am not aware of any 3rd party codec packages, like K-lite, installed. How can I check for this?

The format of the media is a moot point. I get the same shutdown regardless of the format of the orig media on the timeline. This morning I tried .wmv, meg2, and even mp3. The shutdown occurs the instant I select mp3 as my render format.

The error message reads: Vegas pro has stopped working.
Details about the problem can be collected and reported to Sony Creative Software Inc. for troubleshooting. “send” “Do not send”

When I select “send” vegas closes.

As I stated earlier. I re-installed Vegas 9e, 32 bit. Now both 10c, 64 bit and 9e are installed. 9e can render mp3s from any media, 10c shuts down as soon as mp3 is selected.

UPDATE! A different PC in my possession seems to run Vegas 10c just fine and renders mp3 files with no problem. My focus now will be the PC I’m using and not Vegas 10c software. Any suggestions where to start?

I am an optimist and have always assumed that each new version of Sony Vegas either added new tools or improved on the old ones. But with Vegas 10 something happened. Options that had been added and ironed out years ago are now biting me. Like the visible time code issue and now the “missing file” cluster …

Vegas 10 went from a to b to c in very rapid succession and still these problems exist.

If anyone discovers a work around for the missing files issue, please let us know.

The issue has been resolved. A complete and clean uninstall and reinstall of Sony Vegas, DVD Arch, and Quicktime.

This clean uninstall involved using regedit and deleting everything including the folders.

That makes perfect sense to me.  

Client sent me email stating that all clips had to be converted to pro res 422 in order to be played on the AJA ki, and I just went with it.

These \”learning experiences\” are taking a toll on me.

Thanks for checking into that. My plan \”B\” was to go into the AJA ki using HD SDI from my blackmagic decklink card. I guess that\’s moved up to plan A.

The reason for the ProRes 422 files, they are to be played on a AJA dvr type device. I understand that Pro Res 422 is it\’s format of choice.
