Vegas 10 and mp3 renders
Posted by Larry Brewer on February 4, 2011 at 6:42 amWhen I attempt to render an mp3 audio file with defaults Vegas 10c shuts down. It shuts down when I select the mp3 option to render. It doesn’t even wait until I click “save”. I have reloaded and installed Vegas 9e and all is good regarding the mp3 render.
Is this another Vegas 10 issue?

32-bit OS and 32bit VP10c here.
Well, I have read 2 reports on the SONY Forum, but for me it’s holding good. I’ve tried several MP3 template flavours, all good.
What Audio format are you rendering from? And what are your Project Settings? Not that it shouldmatter, but how long is your Event?
Something IS choking on something in there.

February 4, 2011 at 11:55 amHave you installed any codec-paks (like K-Lite)? These can mess up your codecs with Vegas and cause problems like this.

February 4, 2011 at 12:54 pmHey John,
Have you heard of issues if you have Premiere or Quicktime installed as well? I tried to render a .mov file and it would not render at all, showed it was trying to for 1 second and created a 720kb file. Also I rendered a .mp4 under Sony AVC and (320×240) and it had a thick green line under the whole video when played back in WMedia and a green bar on the side when played back in Quicktime. I was trying to render a small file to send over the net from a DV widescreen format.

No, I have Premiere Pro CS5 and the latest Quicktime installed and I have no problems rendering MOV files from Vegas Pro 10.

February 4, 2011 at 2:31 pmRegarding the mp3 issue. The video I was working with was a standard def avi file created by my HVR-s270 Compact Flash card. This file was copied to my hard drive before being placed on the Vegas 10c timeline. I am not aware of any 3rd party codec packages, like K-lite, installed. How can I check for this?
The format of the media is a moot point. I get the same shutdown regardless of the format of the orig media on the timeline. This morning I tried .wmv, meg2, and even mp3. The shutdown occurs the instant I select mp3 as my render format.
The error message reads: Vegas pro has stopped working.
Details about the problem can be collected and reported to Sony Creative Software Inc. for troubleshooting. “send” “Do not send”When I select “send” vegas closes.
As I stated earlier. I re-installed Vegas 9e, 32 bit. Now both 10c, 64 bit and 9e are installed. 9e can render mp3s from any media, 10c shuts down as soon as mp3 is selected.
UPDATE! A different PC in my possession seems to run Vegas 10c just fine and renders mp3 files with no problem. My focus now will be the PC I’m using and not Vegas 10c software. Any suggestions where to start?

These are really tough to debug. That’s why I asked about the codec-paks. Something on that PC must have installed an MP3 encoder that replaced the one shipped with Vegas and Vegas is having problems with it. You might try re-installing Vegas.
Think about what software is different between the PC that works and the PC that doesn’t. One of those extra programs on the one that doesn’t work is probably the culprit.

February 5, 2011 at 10:36 pmConsider this.. Vegas 9e works just fine on that same PC. But Vegas 9e is a new install. I’ll uninstall 10c and re-install 10c and see what happens. Bet that fixes it, whatever it was.
