Can Vegas 9e output a Pro Res 422 video file? If so, where are the codecs that I’ll need to do that?

    Thanks,

    Sorry but no.
Vegas can read it one with the latest QuickTime installed but not make one.

Thanks Mike. I have Quicktime Pro installed and reading the files was never an issue.

My current task is to provide video clips for import into an AJA Ki device and the AJA Ki operator has requested Pro Res 422 video clips.

Do you know of a good conversion utility that outputs Pro Res 422 video files?

    Thanks again,

Larry, to the best of my knowledge, ProRes output is only available on a Mac so I hope you have access to someone with FCP.

Mike is right. Apple will not release a ProRes 422 codec for Windows Quicktime so you need to buy a Mac or know someone who has a Mac to create a ProRes 422 file. It is an Apple/Mac only proprietary format.

I’ve come to that conclusion myself. Thank you for the reply.

Larry, what you could try is rendering out using the free Avid DNxHD codec.

Make sure the FCP user has this same free codec on his/her machine and you should both be happy 🙂

The reason for the ProRes 422 files, they are to be played on a AJA dvr type device. I understand that Pro Res 422 is it\’s format of choice.

According to the Ki Pro page/, it records to ProRes format but it looks like it will take a variety of input formats.

Connect any digital camera or VTR via component analog, SDI or HDMI to Ki Pro.

That makes perfect sense to me.

Client sent me email stating that all clips had to be converted to pro res 422 in order to be played on the AJA ki, and I just went with it.

These \”learning experiences\” are taking a toll on me.

Thanks for checking into that. My plan \”B\” was to go into the AJA ki using HD SDI from my blackmagic decklink card. I guess that\’s moved up to plan A.
