Final Cut 6.0 and I think 6.01 had this problem. If that’s what you’ve got, download the free updates to get the highest version of 6.

Yea, Motion is the most flexible tool, but since you asked for an FCP plug-in, there’s Boris Title 3D, which you have — it’s included in FC.

Under the “Type On” controls, select “Word” from the “Apply To” pulldown and animate the “Type On” parameter from 0 to 100. If you like, set the Fade to somewhere in the midrange for word by word fade on.

There is no point in keeping a UPS in your system if doesn’t perform in this test:

Save all your work then pull the UPS’s AC cable out of the wall. If your computer cuts off, then your UPS is not doing anything for you and should be out of your system. You’re better off with a simple power strip until you can replace the battery and confirm that the UPS will supply back-up for at least a few minutes when the mains power goes.

Last week I saw something very strange. In the system I was using, the computer would instantly cut off when the power strip to VTRs and monitors was turned on. I could think of no logical cause until I tried the above test on the computer’s UPS. The test showed that UPS battery was dead. I replaced it, let it charge up and not only did the UPS now supply back up power, but the computer was no longer bothered by switching on the other gear.

    Hope this helps.

Yes, stills larger than 4000 px in either dimension have caused crashes for me but also stills in Greyscale mode will crash FCP almost everytime in my experience. Bring them in to Photoshop and convert them to RGB.

Doesn’t turning on frame controls merely unlock those settings? What setting would you change once they are unlocked?

In many cases like yours (drive clicking and unmounting) the failure turns out to be the power supply unit only. Be sure to swap in a matching power brick before your sure it’s the drive.

  • As far as I can tell, if you have to re-connect media because the path changed, there is still no way to re-connect renders. If there is a workaround allowing one to reconnect renders, can anyone describe it?

Right click on any through edit and select from menu.

Be careful because I found that if segments joined by a through edit have different speeds they will rejoin anyhow and the second segment will take on the speed of the first.

The last response was six days ago but I don’t see that you ever got the answer.

    Does this help:

    Avid:
V3 – Matte Video with “Matte Key” effect applied
    V2 – Fill Video
    V1 – Background Video

    Final Cut:
V3 – Fill Video with composite mode “Travel Matte Luma” applied
    V2 – Matte Video
    V1 – Background Video
