Basically I need to go on an edit job abroad. There is a G5 there, but they haven’t got editing set-up.

I was hoping to just take along an external hard drive with my new FCS installed on it and just plug-n-edit. Of course I dont’ want to install my FCS on their Mac!

    No chance, then?

I haven’t got the FCStudio package yet to test it but…

    – cannot I not during installation select the external disk as location to be installed?

    – if not: can I not then install it on the Mac drive, as you suggest, then find all the Final Cut folders and files and then drag them into the external drive?

(I have Final Cut Pro 5 installed on a 2nd internal drive, though, but with of course all application support and data files on the 1st system internal drive, libraries)

OOPS! Sorry. I am using iDVD 5.

I have a problem with burning DVD with Toast 7 and iDVD 5. Encoding times are very long with both softwares. Even when I uncheck the reencoding option in Toast it still encodes. Also it seems I cannot burn files larger than 700Mb on a 4.7GB disc using both programs. Is this normal?

    PowerMacG4 733Mhz
    iDVD5
    Pioneer DVR-110
    Verbatim 4.7GB 16xspeed DVD-R
    File size: 701MB

Yes I get it now. All the render ‘colour codes’ appear in window. I am on my home’s Mac (running FCP4), tommorrow I will check out my clients FCP5 settings. Should be the same. This should solve also the appalling and violent jittering I get during playback on the ‘yellow’ items.

I just wonder why my sequence has the yellow (proxy) setting for the first 50secs.
    Thnx.
On 31/11/05 around 21.00 GMT I will post the results.

I don’t understand where you mean. The check marks appear on left of ‘unlimieted RT’ and other options such as ‘Playback video quality’, depending on which ones I choose to select.

October 9, 2005 at 9:58 pm in reply to: Importing Excel spreadsheet as batch list

You are right! It works, but thats not all…

Say I have a sheet with 10 rows of media data. When I import the batch list (.txt) into FCP I do get the offline data for the clips but I also get 15 unwanted offline thumbnails with no timecode data for them.

How do I get rid of them and just get the 10 or 20 clip data I originally logged in the Excel spreadsheet.
Note: I have no empty rows nor columns in my original spreadsheets. They are all filled with log info.

    Thanks.

Walter: the other posts don’t address this issue. …I just read your replies, I now see your reluctunce. Of course.

No the original file was on his computer and he burnt it on CD. My mistake he does have it in aiff.

Anyway the problem was solved by converting to AIFF using Toast.
