You keep saying it only supports 1 CPU – which Xeon has 12 cores? Is something coming soon?

I agree – large towers and PCI slots are gonna fade away and I’m happy to see them go. Heck I just threw an old Kona 3 card in the trash because it was worthless. I’ll bet everything we now need/want a card for will be in a nice, tidy case with a Thunderbolt port – Red Rockets, Quadro’s etc. Think of the heat and power savings – heck the power supply in my new PC is bigger than the new MacPro!

I love it – probably the most powerful workstation to date, at least twice as powerful as anything any of us have ever used (unless you’re running a 12 core tower with dual K6000’s) and everyone is worried about upgrading. This thing is a beast, what could anyone possibly do to upgrade it? There’s nothing currently on the market that could make it any better/faster…

Exactly, let me get to work , not fiddle with PCI slots – this is the most exciting Mac Pro yet! My only problem with my new iMac is the 2 Thunderbolt ports – now with 6 and at twice the speed you can add drives etc with no bottleneck.

I think it’s gonna be pricey – guessing similar to current Mac Pro BTO – Xeon’s alone are over a grand each and dual GPU’s isn’t going to be cheap. Only possible downer is they went with ATI instead of nVidia but developers like Adobe and BMD have been optimizing for OpenCL so it should be more than powerful enough – especially in full 4,000 core config…

Looking forward to more on this for sure. I have to say, overall, this was one of the best keynotes in years!

Yeah I’ve got a 2.1 gathering dust in the corner – recently replaced by top of the line iMac with 32GB RAM and Fusion drive – great machine with an unexpected side effect – I rarely turn on my AC anymore – the iMac runs so cool I’m saving tons of money on my AC.

Bob’s suggestion is also a good one though you’ll never have USB 3 or Thunderbolt – 2 things I could never live without.

By the way I have a 30″ Dell and Dreamcolor – Dell attached via Apple Thunderbolt to dualink DVI adapter and Dreamcolor attched via BMD Thunderbolt to HDMI – so your Dell will be well used.

Uber iMacs now available in Apple refrub store for huge discount! Or wait for the new MacPro…

June 6, 2013 at 6:41 am in reply to: Another FCPX Feature Request

Thanks for all the help John and Jeremy – yeah this project is a mess and has been really causing huge FCPX doubts for me professionally. I still believe that this should be able to be cleaned up in FCPX and Apple still has a lot of work to do on Media Management – it is so easy to do in 7…

I do have another feature right after this that is nice and neat in four Events {reels) and it appears to be much snappier on the timeline so crossing my fingers for happy editing ahead.

Don’t know what version of FCPX you guys are using but on this current project – NOTHING works! Can’t re-link by menu or drag and drop, Duplicating project creates Event with everything linked but Project totally offline. The fun part is when you try to re-link, point to the folder it asks for and it tells you there are no matching files – love that feature!

    EVENT:

    TIMELINE:

    PROJECT:

Just a very frustrating mess that I’ve never experienced in any other NLE in almost 20 years of doing this stuff..

This post wasn’t about moving projects – I did all this weeks ago – it was about making re-linking better. I think it needs MUCH improvement.

Like I’ve said – all my current headaches are this feature film that was handed to me from another Editor who used FCPX and built a complete mess – all I’d like to do is get a clean timeline as ONE Event or Project that leaves all the 50+ Events behind so I can hit space-bar and wait up to 6 seconds to begin playing.

Copied and pasted final timeline into new comp in a new Event – of course all media offline when you re-launch via Event Mgr. This is fine but re-linking is a disaster – even when FCPX found several hundred files when I clicked re-link and came back 3 hours later it was only 23 files in! Sucks…
