Thanks – figured it out. Not happy at all with Adobe’s thinking, or lack of thinking on this one. Having to go to several windows and then having to map every single audio clip is not good. I’ll just cut in Premiere and worry about the mix in another app.

The pic shows it all – I have no other control – tried clicking on everything – nothing. Changing option from Saffire to Premiere Pro WDM doesn’t help either. Sad because I’d like to work in 5.1 while I cut since I do my own sound design.

I’m fairly mid-sized, 6’2″, 230lb and I use Vegas! Have for 13 years and though, like FCPX, it has it’s shortcomings, it’s still by far the best NLE when it comes to audio. Matter of fact I just installed a new Blue Sky Sky One surround system and will mix all my shows in 5.1 in Vegas regardless of the NLE I use. I’ve cut many a show in Vegas including the Emmy winning Back at the Barnyard for Nickelodeon – it’s a weird and wonderful NLE and rumor has it it may be ported to Mac…

I’m a Blu-ray snob – own lots of them and it’s my preferred way to watch a movie for both picture and sound quality – love ’em.
I have bought a few movies on Apple TV lately and the quality is pretty good. This week I burned Blu-ray screeners of a new feature film and did the final cut on for studio screening. I used FCPX (not for the edit – just for the disc) and burned directly to Blu-ray with 5.1 sound – screening went great. It was Alexa, all Pro Res 444 directly to Blu-ray and looked fantastic.

Not so interesting to me. The fact that he was not using Premiere Pro CC is a huge problem for me, while I would happily use FCPX over Premiere Pro 6 or earlier, I would not give CC for X. CC is a whole new beast, far from perfect, but a great NLE.
That said, I have high hopes for the next rev of FCPX, hopefully I’m not deluded and Apple actually finally gets it right and fixes all the missing things needed for my day to day editing. Too many to list sorry…
As far as Editors using a specific NLE for a specific task, I’ve been switching back and forth, many times on the same show, between Sony Vegas and Final Cut Pro since 2000 and still go to Vegas for all my sound design and final mix as I still prefer its speed to Pro Tools. But I’ve never met a facility manager who would allow the use of whatever NLE an Editor wanted to use.

After cutting 2 TV specials on the Mac over the past few weeks, my opinion is that Win64 with a good graphics card like GTX 770 or higher is way faster and more stable than Mac with Mavericks or earlier OS. After all the lock=ups and crashes it will be a long time before I rely on a Mac again.
This running CC by the way, can’t speak for CS6 as it was never useful enough for me.
