5.1 monitoring in Premiere CC
Posted by Lance Bachelder on December 7, 2013 at 7:35 pmI have a 5.1 system – Blue Sky Sky One via Focusrite Saffire – that works perfectly in Sony Vegas and Final Cut Pro X (yes that’s Mac and PC lol) – but I can’t send audio to anything but the front L/R – anyone know how to activate the additional speakers?

December 8, 2013 at 12:06 amThe pic shows it all – I have no other control – tried clicking on everything – nothing. Changing option from Saffire to Premiere Pro WDM doesn’t help either. Sad because I’d like to work in 5.1 while I cut since I do my own sound design.

December 8, 2013 at 10:51 amHave a look at the Audio tab. There you can change behavior for 5.1.

December 8, 2013 at 3:33 pmIt looks everything ok for Saffire.
Did you open track mixer (not clip mixer)?
Do you see surround panner? -

December 8, 2013 at 6:23 pmThanks – figured it out. Not happy at all with Adobe’s thinking, or lack of thinking on this one. Having to go to several windows and then having to map every single audio clip is not good. I’ll just cut in Premiere and worry about the mix in another app.

December 8, 2013 at 6:59 pmAgree. Better find another app for surround.
Surround panner in Premiere is just too basic. Adobe default surround mapping is neither film nor SMPTE/ITU. And you can’t simply change sequence from stereo to surround and then import finished surround mix into a project. I could go on..
