start now with everything 0-100 IRE, -20 Tone and peaking your audio levels no higher than -6db
Walter, what exactly would that do? I’ve never heard that you should do that to the audio levels.

How much would the lo HD box cost? Can’t seem to find it on the website. Also, I shoot in HDV, would the box even be worth investing in?

I think the easiest way is this to shoot the scene where the guy is doing whatever and then have him act out the can falling on him (Clip 1). Then cut but DO NOT MOVE THE CAMERA and have him laying on the ground and get that shot (Clip 2). Then take your beer can and place it on the ground, so the lighting would match and take a picture with the same camera or film a few seconds and then take a frame freeze.
THEN in post, load all three into AE. Start wih Clip 1 and continue to where the bottle hits him and remember that point. Now, if you have photoshop, load the still frame into photoshop and erase the background until all of it is just the beer can and a transparent background. Then place that image over the point where the bottle hits him. The back up a few frames and the keyframe the bottle landing on top of him. Then turn on the Motion Blur for that layer. Now this has to be a quick edit. When the bottle is over your actor, cut that layer off and place Clip 2 exactly under neath it. Then you can add sound effects and render. Pretty basic way.
if you dont get what i mean, check out the early tutorials on videocopilot.net
I promise you, i would not be as good as i am today with Ae if it wasn’t for video copilot. Greatest best kept secret….. ever.

Your best bet is to import both videos into After Effects.
If the camera moves in on the picture via zooming, you are going to need to motion track the footage (check out videocopilot.net for motion track tutorials, greatest website ever, Kramer for ’08 President) and then when the picture starts to turn into video, create a mask over the picture part of the frame and line up the video exactly under neath it and then everything should pair up.
Can you take a still frame from both picture and video and upload then onto tinypic.com or photobucket to show us? It’s kinda hard to tell you what to do without knowing what you are working with.

I’m editing in HDV. I know my way around FCP but there are still a lot of things I do not know. Like proper log and capturing, online-offline etc etc.
So with HDV, the sizes are small enough, that if doesn’t matter if I do online or offline?

Actually that all made sense! I had to read it a few times but it all makes sense.
My question is how would i bring in HD1080i footage to low res? Would I bring in the footage and go to the RT button on the side of the timeline? Any tutorials on logging footage or setting up offline or online?

Are you kidding?
you don’t need anything. You can do this in two seconds.
Film the first scene: a man at a table and then you want to quick pan over to a woman at a table in another placeFilm the man with your camera movements and then when you want the quick pan to take place, turn your camera in that direction as fast as you can and do the same for the woman. But make sure you do the same direction.
Check out the ten minute flick school on Once Upon A Time In Mexico DVD
you will get what i mean then

I’d say Filmstrip to Photoshop and paint them on and then use channel dissolves on it…
It’s kinda hard to do what you want? Are you going for the Sin City effect? or what Dave said, where the tattoos closely fade on the body?
If its just the sin city effect… then in AE go to EFFECTS > LEAVE COLOR
in FINAL CUT PRO > EFFECTS > COLOR CORRECTOR (1 way) and then isolate the color
