You must cut to the moving video at the exact same frame as your still image.

I dont know if I understand you correctly…. is the still a frame from the movie clip? I did something simmilar and it worked good, where the first frame of the clip was “frozen” for a couple of seconds, then the clip played on.

Now, if the still was modified so that it looks like a polaroid, it might be good to zoom the still in so that the image looks exactly as the clip frame.

The actual effect is that a photo gets tossed onto a table and than comes to life. The photo is a still taken from the video. My problem is having a smooth transition from a still to a movie. I realize that the Polaroid effect makes this more difficult since the ratio of the photo is different from the video.

Well, after the photo gets tossed on the table, you have to position the clip in the exact place where the image on the photo is. Convert the clip so that it looks like the image (aspect ratio, size – everything you need is in the basic motion).

Your best bet is to import both videos into After Effects.

If the camera moves in on the picture via zooming, you are going to need to motion track the footage (check out videocopilot.net for motion track tutorials, greatest website ever, Kramer for ’08 President) and then when the picture starts to turn into video, create a mask over the picture part of the frame and line up the video exactly under neath it and then everything should pair up.

Can you take a still frame from both picture and video and upload then onto tinypic.com or photobucket to show us? It’s kinda hard to tell you what to do without knowing what you are working with.
