I get what you’re saying, but DVDs and blu-ray discs will continue to be used in the film industry for years. It’s what dailies are viewed on, screeners are burned to, films are sold on, etc.

My experience with software is that once it isn’t supported, you’re just asking for it. And in video production, I don’t have the time to take the risk of a new OS from Apple causing an out-of-date DSP or iDVD to not function under a dead line. Hence the need for supported apps.

Any thoughts on Toast 11? The Encore subscription is $30 a month. 3 months would pay for Toast.

    Thanks!

    Thanks a million guys!

So glad you cleared up the media management for me. I’ve got everything in one Event now using folders and keyword sets to organize clips.

Seems to be working. So far, FCPX is pretty cool. And that is saying a lot for an Avid guy.

Cody – in case you didn’t know this part, to sync external audio to a video clip, highlight both of them in your Event and then go to Clip/Synchronize Clips in the FCPX menu.

That will create the new synced clip that you can use for edits.

Maybe I’m doing the multi clip thing wrong. Could you look at my Event Library below? You’ll have to zoom the screen shot, but I have an event with three keyword collections. One keyword collection for each camera.

I’m not sure how to create a multi clip without creating a new keyword collection, moving the desired clip from each camera keyword collection into the new one, and then performing the multi clip function.

Hopefully that makes sense. What is the best way to create the multi clips when you have a keyword collection for each camera containing the takes?

Thanks so much – this is confusing at the moment.

I’m not sure what you mean by highlight all of the clips – I’m selecting them all in the left area (an Avid and FCP7 guy – this is my first FCPX project).

Did add an angle to a multi cam clip, and placed the audio, but when I choose “sync to monitoring angle” it doesn’t do anything.

I also can’t figure out how to close the angle editor. Can’t wait to have my head wrapped about FCPX!

Do you have any idea what I’m doing wrong? Thanks!

    Awesome – thanks Russ.

I looks like there is a blue line on the clips not transcoded yet. *i think*.

My crash happened when I tried to bring in Video, and then start a separate audio import at the same time. Doing them separately fixed the problems.

I’m already loving FCPX just because they finally changed their media management. FCPX media management makes WAY more sense than FCP7.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I love indie film forums.

Just ordered a Macbook Pro Retina model – I’ll report back once we start shooting. That will not be until March however – but I’m going to start using FCPX on projects this month to get used to it. Ugh…yet another NLE to learn.

Awesome – thanks. I need my workstation to be mobile, so I’m going to pick up the Retina Macbook Pro and cut with that I think. Will just have Thunderbolt storage and I’ll not be cutting raw files.

Was just nervous about the new FCPX….have loved the stability of Avid and would be using that if I had the money.

Did you ever make a decision? I’d love to know what PCExpress card you’re using on your MBP if you went fr the 17″.
