It looks like AE’s Glow was used to bloom the edges…

You could do it a few ways. One way is to mask him with the pen tool in After Effects (very time consuming) for each frame. Or you could export the 30 frames and cut each one out in Photoshop (very time consuming), but I feel that this way would offer much more control… Number them 00 – 30 and inport then back into After Effects.

    Hope this helps,

You can double-click the map layer and use the pen tool to create a bezier path from point A to point B. Next add the Stroke Filter to the path… I think it’s under Render in 6.5. The Stroke filter will allow you to set the color, size and softness. You can animate the line to draw on.

    Hope this helps,

If you have the Production Bundle you can use CC Page Turn. You’ll probably need to pre-compose the pages and use one page for one side and another for the backside. It helps if you set the filter up then dupe the layer and use backside only or frontside only… This way you can add a dropshadow to both sides.

    hope this helps,

Also, if you’re on a green cyc, make sure that there’s enough light on the actor’s legs and try to avoid ground shadows. I’d shoot each actor separately as large as possible, then composite them. And I’d also echo in shooting the main guy full on, then moving him in post.

    hope this helps,

June 13, 2006 at 5:21 pm in reply to: length of comp & layers

I prefer to have my layers the length of my current comp (which works fine)… It’s the importing of a PS file AS a comp that seems screwy. It comes in at 2 frames – I can change the comp size to 12 seconds, but all the layers within that comp are still 2 frames (which is normal); but I can’t drag out the layers to make them longer, nor can I Option] then using the Timebar (as if they were movie files that lasted 2 frames).

    Anybody else experiencing this?

    thanks,

Hmm, odd… can you post a screen capture of both so that we can see what it looks like?

The only workaround is to go OUTSIDE of Invig… I posted this a few weeks ago to Matt and he was surprised to see that layer maps did NOT cast shadows. I think they’re working on Invig 5 soon… You may want to e-mail Zax or Matt (matt@zaxwerks.com) and ask them to add this feature to Invig 5.
