I did check those out – they face an entire character or word in and out. I’m trying to do a bit more – fade parts of a character in. Can’t figure out how to do it other than with masks, or my latest effort which is to use fractal noise as a luma matte…

I’m more than happy to use that filter, and have been for quite some time. The only reason I posted was because after trying many different techniques, and spending many hours, I felt like I couldn’t see the forest for the trees anymore…. I thought there might be a better way that I was overlooking. The few posts I’ve made here have resulted in some very good ideas from others. I did not ask for someone to put in the hours for me, nor do my project for me, just for ideas….

That makes perfect sense – thanks for explaining it to me. I’ve contacted the client and let him know what his options are. Thanks again!

Yes, I already tried searching for replace text – duh – which is why I asked you if you were talking about a plugin, ‘cuz nothing comes up when I type “replace.” I even tried the help, which also produced nothing…. and, of course, it’s shot in DV – 😉

Sorry I wasn’t clear enough – I really want a harder/faster look than floating – more like a photo being tossed down onto a table – right now i’ve made the photo 3d and am varying the position and z rotation, but it looks very stilted…
