Does the X1900T give you more real time capabilities than the nVidia GEForce 7300 GT?
Is it worth spending the extra money? -
That’s what I’m doing at the moment, but it seems quite inefficient. Especially when you are experimenting with different speed changes. Surely there must be a better way.

HDV footage I’ve shot on my Z1 downconverted in camera for editing as DV looks noticeably better than DV footage I’ve shot on the PD170 or XL1

Restart your computer before you try another export. If your media is on an external drive try media managing it onto an internal drive. Run mixdown audio.Try exporting out the programme as a final cut movie, and printing to tape off that. If that doesn’t work try exporting a self-contained final cut movie and try playing it off that.
Failing that, if it’s just the footage you’re selling, you could export it out at high quality using compressor (it would probably tie up cour computer for days) and deliver it as a movie file.
If you’re running a business selling HDV footage then to do so effectively you’ll need to upgrade your computer.
good luck.

Please let us know how you go Matte. Would be very interested in how you overcame the problem.
I ran out of time and had to deliver the project to the client on DVD so have spent the time running Compressor. Still have not succesfully conformed an HDV version to tape.

I am currently battling with exactly the same issue: When trying to export to tape it stops at the point that it hits a clip exported out of After Effects in HDV. I also tried exporting it as a quicktime movie and had the same problem in the same place. I am currently exporting it as a self-contained quicktime movie and hoping that might make a difference. If not, I will try Matte’s suggestion.
As for rendering as a cluster, you need to set up Apple Qmaster.

If I were you I would put in a lot of work in post to try to improve the footage and make the most of a bad situation. Spend as much time as possible colour correcting to raise the midtones and brighten up the dark shots. If it is a stylised edit you could try adding other effects to mask the poor work: sepia, letter-box, motion effects. Anything which moves the content further from reality but cushions it artistically. I would also try taking the out of focus footage and reducing it in size to a smaller frame. Add another smaller frame alongside playing at the same time of something else such as cutaways of guests. You could even drop a background behind. This technique will help to lessen the emphasis on the out of focus footage.
Try bringing the audio into a decent mixing programme like soundtrack pro and see what you can salvage.
Wherever possible embed the poor sync sound within added prerecorded music.
While I realise that these techniques will not solve the problem, they may lessen it. And if you are able to manipulate the effects skillfully and create something emotional which connects with the couple then they will be more likely to overlook the poor technical issues.
good luck

Sorry to state the obvious, but have you fully rendered the sequence? Have you set the viewer window size to ‘fit to window’? Are there many effects in your programme? You might be able to get away with straight cuts in HDV on your system, but not much more.
I’m interested to know why you feel that the Lacie drives were a mistake.
