I just had a problem doing a print to video using HDV material. Everytime I would do a print to video, it would freeze on the same frame (approx. 10 sec into a 5 min. sequence). I then exported the full res quicktime movie (HDV1080i60 quicktime), and brought that back into a different project in FCP, and the same thing happened on the same frame. Then I tried doing this all on a different work station, and the same thing happened again. (I was first using a G5 dual 2.7GHz w/2GB RAM, then moved to a G5 dual 2GHz w/2.5GB RAM-both have latest software updates). The clip it was freezing on was a clip exported from After Effects, and using the HDTV option (1440×1080), and did not have to render it. What’s strange to me is, it played through fine, and exported fine, and I don’t have any problems with that, just the print to video. I guess a possible fix would be to export from After Effects in a different format so that FCP can do the rendering. If that’s the case, does anyone know of a way to set up 5 different edit stations to work as a cluster to render projects overnight? We have Shake, but I don’t know if that works w/FCP.

    Worth a try:

“Force” the clip to render in FCP.

Add a “do-nothing-visable” effect to that clip so that FCP will NEED to render it.

Then do an audio Mixdown and try to dub it out again.

I am currently battling with exactly the same issue: When trying to export to tape it stops at the point that it hits a clip exported out of After Effects in HDV. I also tried exporting it as a quicktime movie and had the same problem in the same place. I am currently exporting it as a self-contained quicktime movie and hoping that might make a difference. If not, I will try Matte’s suggestion.

As for rendering as a cluster, you need to set up Apple Qmaster.

Please let us know how you go Matte. Would be very interested in how you overcame the problem.

I ran out of time and had to deliver the project to the client on DVD so have spent the time running Compressor. Still have not succesfully conformed an HDV version to tape.

Has anyone had any luck with this issue? I’m still having the problem. I tested it and made FCP render it using the “do nothing visible effect”, and it worked. Then, I appplied the same effect (4 point garbage matte) to the rest of the AE rendered clips in the sequence, and it didn’t work anymore. So, I thought that was pretty strange. If this worked for you please let me know.
    Thanks
