Can anyone help with HDV printing to tape. The project will go through 20 hours of Transcoding and when it’s done it wants the camera put in the “Play” mode. However you never see the window you see with the DV print to tape. NO color bars/slate/countdown. When I check communication with the camera it is fine. I’ve been working on this for about a week now and still cannot print this project to tape. Once I put the camera in the “Play” mode and click ok the window disapears and nothing happens. The only option at that point is to say print to tape again and wait another 20 hours. I’ve also put the camera in record and still nothing happens.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

What happens when you try outputting a 10 sec sequence to tape – does that work fine??

Now that I’ve tried a short clip all I get is a message I have not seen before. “Unable to preform print to video operation for HDV as RT Extreme is not supported. Improved CPU Speed and/or RAM needed to enable RT Extreme and HDV Print to Video.”

So it looks like my G4 laptop isn’t fast enough. What I don’t understand is that I have put a one hour project on tape already. How did that one work and now it won’t? I really need help since I have people wanting to buy my footage.

    What should I do next?

Restart your computer before you try another export. If your media is on an external drive try media managing it onto an internal drive. Run mixdown audio.Try exporting out the programme as a final cut movie, and printing to tape off that. If that doesn’t work try exporting a self-contained final cut movie and try playing it off that.

Failing that, if it’s just the footage you’re selling, you could export it out at high quality using compressor (it would probably tie up cour computer for days) and deliver it as a movie file.

If you’re running a business selling HDV footage then to do so effectively you’ll need to upgrade your computer.

    good luck.

I will take my external drive to the office today and use a G-5 however last time I was there my I tried to do that and FCP 5 would not open the project and it was created on a FCP 5. Seems Like HDV is running into all kinds of issues. I love importing with it and editing with it. It really is nice most of the time. Thanks for the suggestions. I’ll keep trying.
