I just encountered the same problem, except there was no apparent reason why the render would always stop at the same frame. I finally got it to render with no problems once I turned off multiprocessing (render multiple frames simultaneously). Now everything is rendering fine! 🙂

Actually…I’m only able to import files as compositions. So I can import a photoshop file with layers as a comp and I have no problems. However AE CS3 crashes when i try to import any jpeg, mov, avi, wav, or any file as footage.

It’s been very annoying but until this is resolved, I’ve been making projects in premiere with all the things I want to import in AE, then I can import the premiere project as a comp. Ugh, so frustrating!
