Just an FYI, the ICE cards aren’t OSX compatible. The rest of the plan is OK though.

One thing though, what’s the spec of your new FCP suite? If it contains AJA hardware, you might be able to bolt the new media 100 software on to it so you can have the best of both worlds.

I have encountered this problem as well. If I’m right the resulting m2v file also has extra frames of white at the end.

For me, the problem was that I had inserted additional compression markers on the timeline. Removing them did the trick – everything back to normal.

Is there anything unusual on your timeline?

Mpeg 2 and 4 are different encoding systems and are used for different applications. Mpeg 4 is used on things like portable media players, mobile phones etc as it can create much smaller files whilst retaining watchability.

Although there are some DVD players that can play back Mpeg4, generally if the disc is to be played on a standalone DVD player then it has to be Mpeg 2.

Do you have the Quicktime Mpeg 2 component installed? IIRC, it has to be purchased separately from the Apple Store, though it does come with the Pro Apps like DVDSP.

Just use QT Pro to convert the wmv to mpeg2 (and the audio to aiff) then create a DVD in the normal way. The quality will only be as good as the original wmv (probably a little worse) but it will then play in the DVD player.

This does seem to be a bug at present. The work around is to export as a “by reference” file and then use either quicktime pro or a package like streamclip to handle the conversion.

If you are happy to have the images “squished” horizontally, then the above effect can be achieved using the “Cross Stretch” effect in the DVE transitions menu, again set to 50%.

Hi Jerome,

If it is a simple straight-down-the-middle splitscreen you want, the easiest way is to place the clips in the A & B video tracks on top of each other and do a Fast FX Wipe between them. Set the transition percentages as both 50% and choose horizontal, vertical or diagonal for the split.

Alternatively you could use RED to ovelay a cropped video track over the background, but it is a little overkill if you just want a simple effect.

Assuming things haven’t changed that much with the AJA roll-out, the basic idea is to have the AJA either synced to a sync generator, or free running, and sync the deck to the AJA by connecting the composite out of the AJA to the ref in of the Beta Deck. Terminate there, or run a loop through to the monitor if you’d like.

This should lock the deck to whatever the AJA is doing and remove that black bar.

If you are using an external sync source for the AJA the relevant control panel is the “Genlock Setup” in the Windows menu. Pop that open and set the sync source from internal to external.
