Hi Matt,

Certainly the drivers for the hardware based systems clash, so perhaps the same is true for the producer software model.

Perhaps you could get around it the same way – have two partitions on your PB harddrive, one for FCP and one for media 100, and boot into whichever one you need to use.

Hi Dave,

Unfortunately only the last version of Media 100 i (8.2.3) is designed for use with Tiger. IIRC, for 8.1.1. you are stuck with 10.2 (Jaguar)

You can either upgrade you software (the Tune-Up option will do the trick) or go back to 10.2, which can be done by just re-installing from the original OS discs.

Hi Michael,

I’ve successfully digitsed projects from a Z1E in downconvert mode straight into my iXS DV. There were no issues with either the signal or the control. That said I haven’t used the camera you mention.

My only thought is maybe HDV-DV out actually means it is trying to output the signal as HDV and the DV is meaning the port? Try it counter the other way just in case!

Hi Danny,

Like Greg says, probably the best system for you would be a hybrid Media 100/FCP system.

The new Media 100’s utilise the same core hardware as FCP (AJA Kona) and offer many of the same headline benefits (HD, SD, realtime, scalable etc) You just choose the interface that best suits the job in hand. You end up with one suite, one set of monitoring equipment & decks, but the power of both editing systems

The added advantage of this approach (especially for your boss) is that you don’t need to convert or remake all those legacy projects that clients always seem to want to make little changes to. The savings in time & money for that alone will justify the additional cost of creating a hybrid system.

You can also utilise your existing Media 100 kit as a digitising station or off-line edit suite, thus maximising your initial investment.

Hi Marguu,

OK, lets rule out the easy stuff first,

1. Check that the firewire cable is going into the port on the p6000 card rather than into one on the mac itself.

2. Check that Media 100 is registering that the DV option is there. (go into About Media 100 >> info it should be listed as DV600 I think.

3. Check that the connector of the DV option daughter card is seated OK and that the flying lead to the DV port is still connected.

What DVD software do you have?

Personally I make my menu backgrounds/animations in Media100 & Boris RED. I use Red as it also allows me to create the buttons and the overlays in the same application, exporting the overlay layer from within Red before applying and rendering.

I then use Bitvice to encode the menu to m2v and then import to Apple DVDSP.

Hi Chris,

Once you’ve matched the start TC you can use the “replace media” function to replace the empty clip with the new media. (Be sure to set the replace media preferences to allow for retention of the audio nodes though!)

The new Media 100 HD systems are designed to work with AJA hardware. Have a quick chat with Media 100 about the various options.

The software only options to bolt onto existing AJA hardware shouldn’t cost much more than the other route, but will yield much greater rewards in both features and performance.
