load the ama clips in a bin, either by “link to ama files” or “load ama volume”
then select your sequence and relink. should do the trick. also check to see if those clips that are offline, have tape names.

Just got a response from Bob Russo from AVID. It was an Avid 6 bug, not very common, but is fixed in the 6.0.1.1 patch.

FROM AVID COMMUNITY FORUMS.
This is exactly what is happening to us
word for word.
https://community.avid.com/forums/p/108330/627710.aspx#627710
” Running MC 6.0.1 on Lion 10.7.2 with Unity. Noticing that whenever our media folders exceed past 2000 files avid will lock up and crash. Upon restarting the system avid will then scan the database files and then hang near the end of the scan, then crash again. We’ve found that if you create new media folders, split the files up and keep them below 2000 mxf files avid will relaunch, scan and allow you to work again. However, we’ve found that avid is only writing files to the 1.1 folder. It will see media in 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 but it will only write to folder 1.1.
Anyone else seeing anything similar? Is this a known bug?
Thanks! “

May 4, 2012 at 1:43 am in reply to: Export Question. Weird Frame Size request and small file Size from MC?Andrew is right. Compress with h.264 compression. Either MPEGStreamclip or Compressor.
Limit data rate to under 5,000kbps. and go lower if file size is still large. If file formats don’t matter to your client, you can try to compress it as an fly using adobe media encoder. flash videos are a lot smaller then quicktimes.

Apparently the only work around I have found so far is to create new subfolders and move mxf files around.
When keeping file count less then 2,000 Avid works fine, rebuilds database without any issues.
Is there a way to change the database file count limit? so avid can create new folders itself automatically, instead of me doing this every time?
-
Yes each computer has its own subfolder in the MXF folder.
I have not seen any random characters in the filenames.
File count is 3,400 at the moment. I believe the newer versions of Avid should support up to 5,000 files, and then re-create a new subfolder ( 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, etc ) when it has reached its limit.
When trying to rebuild media database, Avid hangs at the very end and will either crash or I have to force quit out of it.

Thanks Shane,
Doing just that right now. My hopes were to upscale the dvd through the dvd player. Setting it to play on a 16:9 “tv” and digitizing it in 1080i HD into AVID.
But I guess this would do, unless client decides to pay for HDCAM master. hah
Thanks

hmmm, did not think about that.
It is a commercial DVD but client has the rights to use certain parts of it in their piece.
So copy protection can block component signals into avid? I figured it’s the same as hooking it up to a TV, plug in the dvd player, play the dvd and crash digitize.

February 1, 2012 at 12:50 am in reply to: Consolidating “FAILED TO CONVERT TRACK TYPE TO DDEF”Yes I found the problem. In my case it was a bad media that needed to be digitized again. Same rule applies for imported media.
To avoid re-digitizing and importing the whole show, I split it up my sequence into 4 acts, and made a new sequence for each act.
Then consolidated them one by one, until i received the error message again.
Then I started looking for a needle in a haystack. Meaning, lifting a clip either from the tail or head of the sequence, and consolidating. Lifting a clip and consolidating, until I would not get the error message. Then thats when I knew I had found the bad media/clip.
Went back into my original 1 hour sequence, deleted the media for that one clip (do not do this if you do not have the original files/tapes)
Consolidated one last time, and everything went through just fine.
Once I digitized that tape that was causing all the trouble, I did another clean fresh consolidation, and got past the problem. It’s a days work, maybe two.
Goodluck! hope this helps

3 years later…anyone know why this is happening? Editor stumbled upon the same problem when splicing a clip into timeline. Was working fine all day, and out of nowhere the error message pops up now, with the green locator that came out of nowhere
Any workarounds? This is on Avid Symphony 4.5
