You should not be monitoring audio from your Mac for FCP, you should be monitoring audio from your deck. It’s cool to monitor iTunes, Logic or ST Pro from there though.
That’s a basic setup problem you have there…..

This is all my opinion and observations about how FCP deals with clips over the past 5 years….
FCP has a much easier time with tapes that are logged and captured as “Scene and Take”. Every problem related to “slipping” ins and outs or trouble with speed fx seem to be directly related to this. It seems as if the newer editors are capturing entire rolls as a rule. I get paid to rescue a lot of these shows and have found that many don’t even log clips at all, even after subclipping.
I never have issues with long form pieces, but I meticulously log each and every clip as a single take. Short and discrete clips have a lot less trouble with media management, speed control and other basic editing tasks.
I doubt anyone will change their “evil” ways of attempting to capture entire rolls with unsupported firewire drives. Don’t say I didn’t warn ya! 😉

Bullet is a render hog, so you have to deal with that. I suggest G Film over bullet for render times.
Next time you Cancel a Render, do a Save. That way if you get a crash, at least that render file will not be lost.

Rendering has become a bit more complex these days. Not only does your video processing have to set to best, you also have to have your RT pop up in Safe RT and Full Quality playback, not Dynamic. I also suggest that you check the dark green “FULL” bar and re-render the piece.
Above all, make sure that you monitor all rendered fx on a video monitor. If you are not using a video monitor in your workflow, then you will never be able to get a read on the final quality of your piece.

I’ve also found that MPEG 4 from QT has a lot of problems associated with it for PC users. Use a .mov.
As for the file size, sending previews by email is rather primitive. Suggest you upload it to your webspace via FTP.
If you don’t have a web presence, I suggest getting an iDisk with a .mac account. It’s very easy to upload and download
larger files.Email is supposed to be for just that: text. Video should be downloaded from a server for best performance.
Keep in mind email programs may have a file size limitation, and that’ll screw ya as well.Kevin Monahan

I’ve always had trouble importing a QT into FCP from PP. Wonder if that’s changed?
Bryce, you’re right, some transitions/animations get broken–but it doesn’t take long to fix.BTW, Recently, I imported an Omni Outliner doc into Keynote. Wow! What an easy way to rough in a presentation.
