If you would care to notice Jeff Merrits comments were there is no new Varicam which is absolutly a true statement meaning there will be no new Varicams as in end of the line, however there is the new P2 HD with a different name that will be replacing the Varicam!

Thanks for the response! I use the Kona 2 because we have been in the Varicam business a long time and still have a old 130deck and I cant see spending 20 something grand for a soon to be obsolete tape deck. Thanks again for the tip I always have used 23.98 but someone brought up a reason for doubt.

    Thanks Again

Why even make the H not compatible with the F this makes no sense, I am really disappointed with how Panasonic is going with things I mean come on you make a product that works great with Mac and get everyone who was PC before to go Mac to use your product and then you say your solution is coming out for the PC first. Come on Jeff I still never forgave you for selling me the FRC by saying you would never sell the software and then 3 months later you announce that you gave the software to Final Cut.

Which part? The new varicam which expect in the next year or two to be the P2 technology. But this is just speculative.

From what I understand its still only going to tape 10 bit so whoopie unless your going to cable to a G5 your sol on the 12 bit part. I would find anyone to stupid to drop there 27f for this new one as the new Varicam is right around the corner.

    Blayne,

Once again I agree with you I dont understand how these people get on a rant when they clearly havent even read the post.

Wouldnt it be nice to be able to capture the footage in the field as it is being shot keeping the tape only as a back up or if the techno geeks must recapture later at full res. This would save alot of time digitizing and add alot more creativity to the shoot as this is something we have done with DV for years!

We would storyboard out the whole project with scratch dialogue and sound, music and then our editor would replace the boards with live action in the field as we went and this helped alot with everyone being able to be on the same wave! This I believe Blayne has been eluding to the whole time! (email me on the side if not Blayne).

It is all about the tools in the tool box that help us do our jobs the best we can, you dont have to use it if you dont want but there is alot of people out there I know personaly that would love to see this.

Blayne I feel your pain I have been talking to AJA for months now about this and I have not got any interest from them. These techno geeks drive my nuts, it would be great to have something in the field to capture to a laptop and at least have a start and recapture later at full res if needed which I have to find a client yet that can tell the difference!

Once again the AJA box would work for what you need I have the same FRC with no SD SDI out on it so I use the AJA box to downconvert to SD SDI.
