Good points Darby, I was just thinking that it would possibly be better than eyeballing two separate windows..

I’m just a noob to AE but:
“There will be a lot of trial and error involved. I recommend opening two comp preview windows, one with the correctly exposed footage and the other with the footage you’re trying to correct. Then your approach may use a combination of the Curves, Levels and Exposure effects. “
What about doing the adjustment in a precomp with the correctly exposed footage freeze framed in one layer with a hard edged mask showing the layer being adjusted (via curves, levels, etc..) Obviously the mask should try to be placed in a position that shares an object in both shots. When you cannot detect the mask edge then you’re probably close (though other things may be off of course..) Anyway, once happy with the adjustments copy the effects to the real layer and kill the precomp (or just use the precomp after removing the extra layer and all…)

I was just wondering the same thing last night (about camera angles). I wonder if Adobe has plans to add this option in in a later version.. (Guess I have to go googling now!)

I’ve always liked Steve Vai’s “Motorcycle Driver” for that kind of stuff – not the words – they’d be kinda cheesy, just the music – hard driving tempo.. If you can get the rights to it and get a karaoke version… He has a lot of other work that has the same kinda feel.

“One overly zealous member came to me with preshot footage described in the original post. I’m just trying to help the kid out.
teach him the painful (but character-building) lesson of rotoscoping. =)”
LOL – hey, you can have him do the project I’m planning on doing to get used to AE: https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/2/932852#932852
And yes, I’m still planning on doing it knowing full well that it’s not going to look professional – learning experience and the whole bluebirds singing under rainbows thing.. 🙂

April 28, 2008 at 8:00 pm in reply to: Chapter Index – not working right – or I misunderstandFinally got the Chapter menu’s to work by deleting all of them from the project (except the first one which was working ok) and re-importing the original Photoshop file. Then going through manually linking the buttons and doing all of the work of the ‘Create Chapter Index’ manually..

April 28, 2008 at 5:25 am in reply to: Menu – Background animation – buttons showing up / loop point not enabledI totally hear that! I’ve burnt 12 so far and it’s still not right.. Too bad the preview isn’t more reliable..
So anyway, here’s what I wound up doing – I started from scratch – all the way back into Premiere, exported to Encore, then imported all of my assets and menu’s.. Made sure I had the duration and the loop point set correctly and whallah – it works just fine! (except for the chapter menu that I’m still having a problem with.. see thread above)

April 28, 2008 at 5:21 am in reply to: Chapter Index – not working right – or I misunderstandOk, so it seems that was the issue (auto route buttons). Which looks like it’s the default setting.. Wonder if there’s a way to change that.
Anyway, now I’m facing another problem with the chapter menu’s.. The first one works fine. The second comes up and the default button is highlighted but user can’t navigate to the other buttons at all.. Only thing they can do is select that first button which does play the link – I’ve tried several things from copying the first one and relinking, turning off the ‘Create Text Subpicture’, saving, then turning it back on.. Nada.
Frustrating.

April 26, 2008 at 3:30 am in reply to: Menu – Background animation – buttons showing up / loop point not enabledAlright, well, It’s not quite working the way I thought it would.. I made all of my animations longer by about 2 seconds. I set the loop point to 2 seconds less than the new duration. I set loop # to none and, basically went through another 5 test burn DVD’s and it’s still not quite right.
THe main menu works as expected.. The second menu plays the animation but I can only select the ‘Main’ button – not either of the two normal buttons which link to content. I’m wondering if the menu isn’t corrupt or something (though I did duplicate it and worked on that which netted better results – just not quite right..)
As I have to get this DVD out for duplication I am going to have to scale back and loose most of the animations. Fortunately, I am the client so I’m ok with it.. But, I still have to figure this stuff out for next time. Once I get this in the mail I’ll try messing around to see if I can produce the effects that I want.
Thanks for your help guys!
