so after the page turn effect, does anything else animate, or continue moving? or are they freezing on a frame after the turn is complete?

it’s been my experience that avid can’t hold on both fields of a frame, so you get the jaggies.

i think your settings are ok (i would verify that the render settings are indeed lower field, just to be safe).

i think they may be importing incorrectly… i think you mentioned that photoshop files had issues, and that would make me suspect that there are problems with the import in to avid.

avid isn’t very smart when it comes to importing, if you have something that is progressive (be it a sill image or footage) and it is imported into avid as having fields, then it usually looks bad. the same can happen the other way around, field render mis-imported as progressive. those settings can get changed, and if the editor doesn’t check before importing something new then there is a good chance the settings are not the correct settings for that import.

verify your render settings and output module settings, then verify the import settings in the avid before they import your footage.

you could try echo or cc force motion blur effects. revision has a good plugin called reelsmart motion blur that works well on footage.

if the props are moving fast, like you’re barely able to see them, maybe you should remove them in the 3d app and replace them with a translucent disk.

are you setting your render to render in fields (via the render settings)? ae will default to progressive.

in avid they have import settings that need to be set correctly when importing too. if you give them rgb color, 601 pixel aspect ratio and progressive frames, that all needs to be set up before they import.

i’ve seen stuff i’ve given to avid editors look like crap when those import settings don’t jive with the footage or photoshop files that i’ve given to them.

hey dave, i reworked the flickerfree credit roll preset to work in ae 6.5 and up…. now if they change the font size on you, ae will do the recalculating work. i figured its your process, you should be able to use the preset.

note, it you apply it ot a text layer directly, and that layer has to change you should precomp the text layer and make that precomp to the size of the credit list. for some reason ae (at least in my testing) does not refigure the size of the text layer after it gets modified.

dave laronde had posted a method (or process) that described how to derive a move that would be in whole pixels or even numbered pixels if it needed to be field friendly.

i used his description to create a preset that can be downloaded here:

    http://www.mercuryjones.com/aepresets.html

there are instructions, but essentially apply the preset to the credit layer and position it where you would want it to start and the preset will do the rest.

there are controls for keeping it field friendly (which you may want to disable) and for padding, if needed. if the move is too fast, increase the duration of the comp or reduce the length (size) of the credit list. modifications can be made at any point and the move will be recalculated.

if you’re talking about the mask lines… in the view menu, select view options. there you can uncheck show masks.

however, i don’t think you will be able to select the mask points to edit. but you could select 2 views (from the bottom of the viewer) and turn off masks in the view options for one of the viewers, and work in the other viewer. a bit unusual, but i think it would work.

i found the link to pete’s plugins:

    https://www.petewarden.com/InstallHelp.htm

they’re free, and i’m pretty sure that ‘smear’ will create a very similar effect.
