dave laronde had posted a method (or process) that described how to derive a move that would be in whole pixels or even numbered pixels if it needed to be field friendly.

i used his description to create a preset that can be downloaded here:

there are instructions, but essentially apply the preset to the credit layer and position it where you would want it to start and the preset will do the rest.

there are controls for keeping it field friendly (which you may want to disable) and for padding, if needed. if the move is too fast, increase the duration of the comp or reduce the length (size) of the credit list. modifications can be made at any point and the move will be recalculated.

hey dave, i reworked the flickerfree credit roll preset to work in ae 6.5 and up…. now if they change the font size on you, ae will do the recalculating work. i figured its your process, you should be able to use the preset.

note, it you apply it ot a text layer directly, and that layer has to change you should precomp the text layer and make that precomp to the size of the credit list. for some reason ae (at least in my testing) does not refigure the size of the text layer after it gets modified.
