remember, even if you have 8gb of ram (2gb for each core) for ae to use for rendering, the os will be using some of that ram too. the 2gb of extra ram (4×512) could be used by the os and any other app you have open.

[AbsolumER] “i already met with the CC Sphere but all i got is a 2D ball who looks like a 3D but cannot be rotated as 3d of course”
if you use the rotation controls within the effect, rather than the rotation controls for the layer you will have more success. or, as mentioned, look at andrew’s earth tutorial and link the effect’s rotation controls to a camera.
also, in the ae expressions forum, there is a thread from this weekend, discussing linking cc sphere rotation to layer position that you should check out.

also, i’m glad you appreciate the advice, and my art director (immediate boss) knows how much i contribute, but i’m not sure those above her even understand what we do… let alone how a strong technical understanding of software, hardware and workflow can fix or even prevent problems from ever happening.
i actually just inteviewed last week, and mentioned to the creative services director about some of the technical knowlege i could bring with me, and he just had a rather blank expression….
oh, well. atleast it’s appreciated here,
thanks

ae cs3 does have an audio settings preference that may help you set ae to use the correct audio device.
i believe previous versions of ae look to the systems settings. in windows, i think you can set your default device to use the extra hardware in the sound & audio properties. on mac, its usually something like system prefs>audio>output, and select it there.

if you have open am slots, i would fill them with whatever compatible ram you have…

[skubeedoo] “In premeire, I get audio on the playback, but non in AE.”
do you mean no audio in the ae preview or no audio in the final render…?
if it is in the preview, make sure the audio is on for that layer. in the timeline, on the left side, there is a check box column for audio (looks like a little loud speaker). make sure that it is checked for your layer.
if it is in the final render, you need to enable audio in the output module settings. from the render queue, click the output module settings. at the bottom of the settings window, there are the audio settings, turn them on and set them accordingly (make sure the audio rate matches that of the original audio). if you render with audio frequently (sith the same settings), you can create an output module that has audio render enabled so you just choose it from pulldown menu, or even make it the default.

read down 2 posts… Rutger may be try to do something similar with cc sphere, linkning the rotation properties of the cc sphere effect to the position to simulate a realistic postion-rotation relationship.
is this something similar to what you were trying to accomplish?

i was able to link you expression to a null with auto orientation turned on, so the null would orient to direction that was moving, and that seemed to correct the mult-dimentional rotation issue.
i linked the y rot of cc sphere to the y pos of the null:
-360 * thisComp.layer(“Null 1”).transform.position[1] / (2 * Math.PI * effect(“CC Sphere”)(“Radius”))
then i just parented the cc sphere layer to the null so it would follow the nulls movement and orientation.

i don’t see any reason you couldn’t work in illustrator… but instead of saving as a psd, i think i would save as an ai file. ae will import a layered ai file as it would a layer psd.

if it is 29.97, then you should only need to set the separate fields to upper or lower (usually lower ofr most ntsc and ntsc dv), don’t worry about pulldown, there isn’t any.
what are you seeing when you have separate fields set to lower? are you planning to render back to interlaced, or keep it progressive?
if you are going to reinterlace, don’t worry what the deinterlaced preview looks like, leave the correct field order for separationa nd don’t check the preserve edges, and you should be fine when the fields are rendered.
if you are going to keep it progressive, try checking the preserve edges box if the footage interpretation. this can help smooth some of the edges that may look a bit jaggy after deinterlacing with ae.
in addition, you might also try turning on frame blending to the lower setting (frame mix). this will blend frames created with the upper field with the frames created from the lower field, and may help out with some footage.
