I would draw in AE or import from Illustrator your circular shadow. I would put it ‘1’ value behind your character in Z space then parent that layer to character. I think the anchor points need to be aligned to prevent unwanted drift.

  • You can use the Stroke effect to do the draw on. Put the Stroke effect on a empty solid layer and then create mask paths for the Stroke to follow. The parameters are pretty straight forward for the effect.

Tracking can be done in AE (helps greatly to have a target high in contrast). And you can have the stroke follow the track.

If you are new to AE and this project is coming up soon, I would start learning the fundamentals yesterday. It is an extremely deep and often complicated program. I would really suggest that you do fundamental courses in order to establish a decent baseline to work from. Because if you just do some Stroke and Tracking tutorials, I don’t think it will be enough to complete the project. There are other unseen aspects to the process that will require other fundamental parts of AE to be in place. And often things won’t look like envisioned and other techniques or effects will need to be employed.

    Good luck!

You need to do it in a 3D program or buy a 3D plug-in for After Effects. After Effects is a 2.5D program, meaning you can position comps in 3D space, but they are flat rectangles without depth.

Yeah, you’re right. On closer inspection the front of my letters are being pushed outward and disconnecting from the rest of the geometry. It doesn’t matter if I convert the MoText to a polygon, it does the same thing. When I increase the amount of displacement strength, it pushes the front polygons out further.

How can I map this material to the letters then? It’s a simple tile texture that came with C4D. I then created a displacement map based on that texture file to give the tile texture rounded edges like they have in real life.

Projection is set to ‘cubic’ and Sides to ‘both’.

Any insight or help would be appreciated.

Encore can do HD, but you need to burn to Blu-Ray. DVD is a standard def format.

It’d like to get some glossy reflections on the postcards from the environment to add a little something extra. And I might play around with the Random Effector to have them collapse together at the end.
