  • Displacement Map Texture Problem

Posted by Kevin Camin on February 29, 2012 at 4:33 am

    Hi,

On the word ‘Tunnel’ I am trying to displace a tile texture, but something funny is happening to cap’s edges; there’s a dark black outline being generated.

I set my MoText caps to simply ‘caps’.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Best regards,

My guess is that it’s something to do with displacement.

Yeah, you’re right. On closer inspection the front of my letters are being pushed outward and disconnecting from the rest of the geometry. It doesn’t matter if I convert the MoText to a polygon, it does the same thing. When I increase the amount of displacement strength, it pushes the front polygons out further.

How can I map this material to the letters then? It’s a simple tile texture that came with C4D. I then created a displacement map based on that texture file to give the tile texture rounded edges like they have in real life.

Projection is set to ‘cubic’ and Sides to ‘both’.

Any insight or help would be appreciated.

    Best regards,

Looks like the caps are not welded to the extrusion, which is odd. You should be able to fix it by putting the motext inside a connect object.

    Thanks, Adam!

    Worked like a charm.
