The best around that price range is the Canon HV20 or HV30 (tape).

To download HG10 footage, you need FCP express 4 or the latest version of fcp Studio6.

I use an HV20 with V8. I would play back the video in the camera to make sure the tape is not defective or recorded distorted video. If, OK then may try to play back the HDV tape with the DV conversion on in the HV20. This may give you some information.

The c stands for the latest version of Pro 8. Make sure you down load the latest version Pro 8c.

I use both Pro 8c and pro 8.1 on Windows Ultimate 64 bit. They both work fine.

Look (Google) the Canon 5D mark II Digital camera (not Camcorder) just came out. It has full frame 21 Mgpixel sensor (same as 35 mm film and same as the RED) It does digital photos and HD (1080P video).
This could be a hint of what may be coming.

You might try to render->main concept MPG->Choose templet, Blu-Ray
1920×1080 60i, 25 Mpbs video stream.And burn on a BR burner or 10 minutes will fit (probably) on a standard DVD-R.

Remember that the “RED” camera is a one chip camera. I have a Sony V1 (3 chip CMOS 1/4″). Generates great pictures in HDV, Hi Res. and great color. The Canon HG10 creates nearly as good pictures. I often intermix HG10 and V1.
When you edit in AVCHD and render MPG2 off the timeline, the resulting DVD (720×480) is excellent, nearly as good as HI. Def.

In a feature movie (So Love Returns) I had 15 nested subprojects. I noticed no loss of quality. jk
