    I had the same or worse problems with AVCHD with Sony V8. V8 stalls and quits with AVCHD so it is useless.

    Upshift converts AVCHD to M2t which is similar to MPG and Sony V8 is happy.
    By the way Upshift has many settings. I would set
    Keyframe = 2
    GOP size = 15
    Bitrate = 50 MBps
    This matches MPG2 and V8 works fine.

    I know if you want to make a DVD via DVDA you need to render with AC3 pro. (and mpg2)

    The only thing I can think of why Vegas hangs up is that it’s trying to process something it does not have a codec for. You may check your audio tracks and files.

    I am using a Macpro laptop (2GHz, Dual Core, 2Gb memory, 80 GB internal hardrive, about 2 years old), with BootCamp. Running Vista home and Vegas 8b.
    Vegas runs amazingly fast.
    On an performance test the Mac/PC runs faster than a 5000+ AMD dual core desktop.

    Of course I do my regular and almost all work on Vegas, but when I want show off to the Panasonic/FCP crowd I run FCP on the Mac Laptop.

    I have an HV20, which is very similar to the HV30 (tape).
    You can only capture Harddrive footage with USB, such as from the Canon HG10.
    For the HV30 you do need FireWire. You can buy a small card to put in your computer for Firewire (BestBuy has it).

    Hi Matthew. Sorry, that no one with lots of HD experience is responding.

    So, I did a bit of testing. When I import DV captured from tape, the date/time stamps does show up in Properties and when you choose “VIEWS” for detail, in the box just above the Media Bin.

    Then, I captured an HDV tape taken by the Canon HV20. I captured the tape with both the HV20 and a Sony HC1. THe date/time stamp did not show up from either camcorder.

    So, I have to conclude that this behavior is most likely a bug in VEGAS V8.

  • Sorry. The Blu Ray Internal Recorder is
    available now, at for example:

    Just as Terry Esslinger said: Open a 4×3 project and drop in the 16×9 footage and automatically you get a black border on top and bottom.
    If you want your 16×9 fill the 4×3 screen, GO:
    event pan/crop (small square on right of the videoclip) ->
    open Preset(near top) -> choose 4×3. This will zoom your 16×9 to 4×3.

    You may have changed the external Harddrive letter (e.g. F,E G etc.) Vegas will not see the footage in that case. So, either change the drive letter back to the original or
    right click on the clip in the project media window and click on “Replace”. Find the drive where the footage is for each clip.
