The Website below has a new software program that converts AVCD from Canon (MTS) and from Sony (M2TS) to M2T which is easily aditable in SONY V8.

please explain the benefits of converting AVCHD to M2T. Can’t sony V8 edit AVCHD and then render it into a number of different regularly playable formats? I’m asking because my AVCHD footage stalls and lags behind my audio when I am editing, is this something that could fix that issue?

I had the same or worse problems with AVCHD with Sony V8. V8 stalls and quits with AVCHD so it is useless.
Upshift converts AVCHD to M2t which is similar to MPG and Sony V8 is happy.
By the way Upshift has many settings. I would set
Keyframe = 2
GOP size = 15
Bitrate = 50 MBps
This matches MPG2 and V8 works fine.
