You mention scanning your “drawings” at 400dpi. How large are they physically? 2″ x1.5″? That would equal 800×600 pixels. Think about it. An 8″x10″ scan at 400dpi = 3200 x 4000 pixels.
AE can easily work at this resolution, and larger as well. Many layers at this resolution may result in slower renders, depending on what you are doing elsewise, but AE shouldn’t crash.

Seems like you could just adjust your bitmap scans ( IN PHOTOSHOP ) to whatever maximum size (pixels) you need your output to be, Then make your AE comp that size. If you intend to push (zoom) on your document, figure that in to the equation as well.

January 16, 2007 at 9:25 am in reply to: Are you suppose to calibrate your LCD monitors?

All monitors need some tweaking for correct color balance.

One problem with LCD monitors is the luma doesn’t really make it to the dark end of the curve.
This is very deceiving for trying to adjust your pedestal.

Seems that (if you are designing for TV), you should have a TV (CRT!) reference so you can adjust for the interlace artifacts,
as well as being able to see the entire dynamic range.

PS – I have some kind of McGrath color evaluation system that (I try to pretend) works really great.
It does what it does I guess… but we have several TV’s that we make our final color and curve adjustments on.

You might want to give Retimer a try.

    It really works

and it’s really slow too… more time for golf!

Yeah buddy. I need this information as well. It would seem that with this here newfangled internet the info would be a few clicks away… but unfortunately this ain’t the case.

    Ouch there Mylenium,

Perhaps you didn’t understand my question.

as it turns out… the solution appears to be to coordinate the motions in linear fashion, then pre-compose all related layers, time re-map and adjust the acceleration/de-acceleration (exponential) curves from there. Then all the x’s & y’s & z’s are all in sync.

And it’s not really in the manual, but it is in one of these terrific COW tutorials (more or less).

    So, thank you COW tutorials!

November 13, 2006 at 4:49 pm in reply to: P2 Camera for 2,849.00????

OH yeah, this is such a hilarious issue. I was buying some cams a few years back, and even though I know the spiel, I called one of those “ultra super lower than anybody’s price” yahoos just to see what they would say.

So… “Sure! We have the XYZ-6000 camera for $3000 less, but we’re out of stock” etc. etc. etc.

But the best part was: “the camera we sell at this price is the Chinese version with the all plastic body, and doesn’t include lens, transport, electronics, case, viewfinder, battery, instructions or warranty”.

As I said, just to see what they would say, I pursued until finally I figured out I could actually buy the “XYZ-6000” (or whatever it was) from them for about 20% more than B&H.

I guess some people go for this sort of bull.

  • Pretty basic stuff there (for AE). The 3D thing appears a little more complicated.

RE: Render for FLASH. Just compose at any size you are comfortable with, the resize with your render settings.
You can mash it to your streaming specs as well.

Yo there Steve, thanks for speedy reply!

Yes, this makes sense as being what I need to do, but exactly how do I do this?

Material is being (dumped to &) delivered on a regular firewire drive.

Teach me to fish and I can feed myself forever.

    Thanks

RE: dont know which functions will allow me to pull the end of my out clip on my footage

Yes ditto. I can’t figure it out either. My clip slows to 50%, but stays the same length
(so I only can see the first half… slowed down)

This is causing the second half of my dance/excercise video to be VERY boring.

    Thank you all in advance!!!

September 26, 2005 at 2:41 am in reply to: neon sign text

It might help to have a neon font for lettering, but this works on anything.

Look closely at some real neon and you’ll see that the reflections are usually a little different hue.

Use several blurs (glows) and offset the hue a little bit for a more realistic effect.

Also, lay the lettering over some convencing backgrounds.

A little practice and you can’t tell it from the real thing.
