  • Is it possible to make something like this in After Effects?

Posted by Daniel Haskett on October 18, 2006 at 1:48 pm

    Hi there

Basically if you go to this site https://www.music4.com/ on the main page on the right there is like a little flash animation that plays showing stuf theyve done. Now I now how to do the actual animation part in after effects but is it possible to save it out as a small enough flash file to embed into an html page? Or……whats the best way? Without having to do the animation in Flash, as Im much faster with AE!

    Thanks in advance,

    Dan

Pretty basic stuff there (for AE). The 3D thing appears a little more complicated.

RE: Render for FLASH. Just compose at any size you are comfortable with, the resize with your render settings.
You can mash it to your streaming specs as well.

    Hey thanks for the help

Have you got any tips on the compression/composition size to keep something that is 15 seconds at a decent size that wont take too long?

    cheers

It doesn’t really matter much. The safest road is to render ouut uncompressed and then play with the compression either in thze standalone FLV Encoder or when directly importing into Flash (it will ask you if you want to convert the video file and offer some options)

It doesn’t seem that small to me, 454 KB in my Temp Internet Files, for 200×200 8 or 9 sec, especially if you keep that middle 3 sec in vectors (text and shapes). I bet an flv(with the newer compression), which is a drop in for flash, isn’t larger than that, maybe smaller. Also if you do a swf from AE, take it into Flash (or have a friend do it) and then Publish it (like rerender) and you’ll be suprised, Flash will optomize the vector parts especially and it can be much smaller than when you birthed it in AE.

Compare your swf with an flv exported from AE (AE 7, I think it the newer flv), or like Mylenium said, try encoding as flv when you bring it into Flash (or use Sorenson if you have it).

I bet you can equal or beat 454 KB.

Just recently We’ve been getting a lot of clients who request a version of thier TVC (15-30 sec) as a SWF file for thier website. They don’t really know what to ask for because someone else usually does thier web design, and its not thier thing; but I have been using a handy app called Video2SWF, because the After effects output to swf option yielded crappy results and by bosses are to cheap to get me Flash. Its worth a look.

It also includes the option to output files with a built in player (its a flash animation after all)
