I know it is a lot of work to make these tutorials and greatly appreciate them.
Sometimes I can pull bits and pieces from Maltaanon’s turorials and combine them with Andrew Kramer’s, Aharon Rabinowitz, and Serge’s ideas and get some great stuff.
Thanks to all the Cow members who are willing to take the time and share there techniques.

A live trace will still keep the jpeg intact. You need to expand the appearance (under the Object Menu) and save the file out. If your using CS3, make sure to save down to CS2 and turn off the compression setting.
You still might get a crunchy looking image in ProAnimator. The LiveTrace feature in Illustrator is good, but not perfect.

I disagree. I use my Wacom tablet with illustrator and it make it much easier for me than trying to hunt for points with the mouse. stretching and pulling bezier curves is more fluid to me with the tablet.
If you need justification for purchasing a tablet, and your work is say 70% Illustrator 30% Photoshop, this is still reason to have one.
Another tool I use that works well with the tablet is the smooth tool under the pencil.
There are brushes in Illustrator that can be set to pressure sensitivity and the symbol sprayer tool is pretty cool to use with this function.

Is there a way this tutorial can work using a Mac?
I’m not sure if I can follow along with the requirements.

I think I found the answer to my own question. It looks like Adobe acquire Visual Infinity some time ago. Does anyone know if this plug-in will re-emerge? It is not in CS3, at least in the form I’m accustom to.

I’ve found that CC Light Rays is effective in some instances.
I would suggest downloading the demo and seeing for yourself. The results you get with Shine to me look better.

I rendered out those part of my project that didn’t have the Trapcode plug-ins and built a new project in version 7.
What you describe above sounds good. Was that no this forum? I have BBedit and could do this very easily, if it works.

    Thanks for your help.

A quick update, I just switched my render method for ProAnimator render to Hi-Quality Open GL and this seems to be working, but it is taking a bit longer.

  • The new issue of CineFex has a article on Spider-Man 3 and most likely covers the Venom FX. I was thumbing through it at Borders. If you can spare the $12, you could pick it up and see how they did it.

This is a great tutorial. I know you could use custom shapes but I didn’t quite understand how. Great job Serge! When will this DVD be available?
