September 24, 2007 at 10:55 pmI can tell you that I’ve just finished work on my Cow Series DVD for design and production techniques using ProAnimator and After Effects, which includes a section on preparing Illustrator files. No help to you right now I know… If you have specific questions let me know.

September 24, 2007 at 11:23 pmI have just never used Illustrator much .. Got to be just a few steps to open an image in illustrator and do a …live trace? I think and then save it.

September 24, 2007 at 11:28 pmTechnically yes, but there are a few things to watch out for. I’d love to list them here, but I have a deadline. Perhaps try searching the Zaxwerks forum archive, this question has come up before.

September 25, 2007 at 12:23 amMaybe I’m missing something, but I’ve worked with Illustrator and ProAnimated and I’ve never done a live trace on my files. I use straight old Illustrator files saved as .ai.
Am I missing something?

September 25, 2007 at 12:26 amThe potential problem with live trace is having more paths and control points then you need. Compound Paths may also need some tweaking after the trace to get ProAnimator to recognise them. It all depends on the complexity of what it is you’re trying to model in PA.

September 26, 2007 at 11:22 pmA live trace will still keep the jpeg intact. You need to expand the appearance (under the Object Menu) and save the file out. If your using CS3, make sure to save down to CS2 and turn off the compression setting.
You still might get a crunchy looking image in ProAnimator. The LiveTrace feature in Illustrator is good, but not perfect.
