Yes, Doug. That’s what is was doing when I was rendering to my system drive. Seemed to not do it when I rendered to my external RAID. BUT… several minutes ago when I was having Compressor rendering the Mac had rebooted. Not sure where those files were being rendered to. Gotta check. Well those 2 renders were to my RAID but only one finished so Mac shut down during the render of the second one.

So still not 100% sure the system drive was the problem. I need a FCPX/Mac guru on this one.

Here is more detail to my process and set up.

FCPX is installed on my iMac 27 (Late 2013).
3.5 GHz Intel Core i7
32GB 1600Mhz DDR3
NVIDA GeForce GTX 780M 4096MB

All FCPX video data and files/folders stored on external 9TB RAID-5.

From day 1 I have SHARED (rendered) my FCPX MP4 (Fast) and MOV files to my Mac Drive. This has worked fine until yesterday. That is when FCPX started shutting down sometime during the SHARE process. I’ve SHARED 2 renderings (1 MP4-Fast and 1 MOV) to my RAID and they completed the process.

So it is looking like something has gone a bit “south” on my Mac Drive.

Specs: iMac 27 late 2013, 3.5GHz Intel Core i7, 32GB 1600MHz DDR3 ram, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4096MB.

I will try the ProRes and take to Compressor.

It appears running FCPX’s Share as H.264 Better Quality, for rendering an MP4 file, will cause my iMac to crash and reboot. I’ve done it 6 times in the past 12 hours. If I set it to H.264 Faster Render it works fine.

Since this is my master file I will be delivering I want the best quality possible, so I wanted to Share as H.264 Better Quality. But FCPX can produce a file at H.264 Better Quality.

Is this a known bug?

How do you get the BEST MP4 quality out of FCPX?

I have always copied my footage into the Library. It seems somehow on this project that did not happen. I was able to restore all my data but it took awhile since the footage and music were on different drives. So I think I’ve got this issues under control.

I did delete all rendered files, toggled the codec, let it rebuild the needed rendered files and my Shared MP4 was processed completely.

Actually when I use the command Break Apart, that removes all transitions.

But come to find, when I break apart my Compound Clip in my master Project’s timeline, it opens a new timeline of just my Compound Clip. So that gets me nowhere.

That’s a good one. Something I’d say.

When I DO break it open it seems to be fine. So today’s lesson, break apart my Compound clips before that final SHARE.
