Normally I add shadows to PIP and PhotoShop cutouts which are usually in motion in most of my photo montages and video projects.

I guess it’s only in the Track Motion window. Can’t you apply drop shadows to Events?

    Thanks,

  • That’s good to know since we are planning on getting a 7D soon.

I also like that they have a Stabilizer and Flash Remover plug-in that look pretty good. How do their Film FX compare to Vegas’s?

    Thanks,

    Markm

As I just stated in the 2nd post, I just upgraded from 9.0b to 9.0c.

My second though was a possible courpt clip, I thing it froze the vieo in different places since I was scrubbing back and fourth.

I’m now just playing a different project and see if it freezes up.

This is my second Vegas project after using a different NLE for 18 years. I really like how Vegas is structured.

The only thing major thing that has changed was I upgraded from 9.0b to 9.0c. Now I have this project I can’t edit because it locks up.

This all ties into the thread above this one, but no drive letters changed.

February 16, 2010 at 2:53 am in reply to: How to Configure Computer for Vegas Pro 9.0c?

    What is your source video?

HDV from Sony Z1 and Z7 captured via firewire from Sony 35U deck.

Have you adjusted the Dynamic RAM up or down? turned on more than 2 threads in Preferences? Locked it to one thread?

Started with 500 DR and 4 threads then adjusted to 64 DR and 2 threads. Both cause “low memory” error messages at about 30 mins of a 90 min proj. Haven’t tired 1 thread yet.

More information about how you’re currently running, information about errors might help.

Running Win XP Pro, SP3, Dual Intel Xeon E5440 @ 2833MHz, four 1GB memory sticks installed (Win reports only 2GB) DDR2-FB DIMM, installed Vegas Pro 9.0c 32bit. The “error” simply states “running low on vurtial memory, shut down some programs to free up memory”. I am attempting to render out this 90 min proj to a single M2T file to import into another program.

Using AVCHD as a source has occasionally choked my 8 core system, turning on more threads has helped. Keeping the Project Media cleaned from events not found in the project has really helped too.

Not doing AVCHD. I do have a mix of media in the Project Media which I was trying to clean out. If I remove all media that is not part of this project, that would help? Of course, stupid me, I didn’t set up a file bin in PM for this job. It’s all in the ALL MEDIA or root folder of the PM.

Using 32 or 64 bit system?

    32bit as I said.

We’ve met several timeas at WEVA shows and such. You are one of the reasons I’m moving over to Vegas as my main NLE.

    Thanks.

February 15, 2010 at 5:54 am in reply to: Virtual Memory Running Low??

I’ll upgrade in the morning and see what happens. But let’s backup first. I decided to move to Vegas because of Douglas (Spotted Eagle) and my friend Eugene (who suddenly passed away last year). I started with Pro 8. Only did very small things like generate slow-motion clips. Pro 8 states it works in XP, SP2 (I may still be at SP2-I’ll check) and about 2GB of memory. Then I upgraded to Pro 9 and a few weeks ago started my first full project; a wedding. The final edit runs about 90 mins. I haven’t even cracked open DVD Architect yet. I need to take this project back into SpeedEDIT to do a few things and then encode it for 16:9 SD DVD. Once I learn a few more things in Vegas, I won’t need to go this route. I can stay in Vegas start to finish.

The computer was custom built and never had a memory issue. In SE I can render a 160 min project, uncompressed into a single file with no memory issues. A 160 min project would take up about 160GB of disk space. I have plenty of disk space. The computer was setup with 2 processors, 8 cores and 4GB of memory. How XP “sees” the memory, how it accesses the memory is all Greek to me. The bottom line is I had no memory issues.

So, is Vegas accessing the memory differently than the other programs on this computer? They keep telling me this is a very powerful computer. Then the question of 32bit and 64bit keeps coming up. Should my Pro 9c be setup for 32 or 64? What other factors come into play? Does 64 only work in Win 7? When I upgraded to Pro 9 there was no Win 7.

So my question is, without purchasing anything new right now, what are my options? What reconfigurations should be made to the computer? Or should I just go back and use Pro 8? I’m a video producer, not a computer guru. That’s way I rely on feedback from posts on this forum.

The last question I have is “what is the standard work flow in Vegas from captures to DVD and Blu-ray burning?”

    Thanks for any direction.

February 14, 2010 at 6:22 am in reply to: Virtual Memory Running Low??

OK, Win 7 and more memory are on the list of things to get. Except upgrading to Win 7 is a major overhaul since everything has to be reinstalled fresh. And I just noticed that I am running Vegas Pro 9.0b, not c! Could that be part of it?

Render data says it will take about 9 hrs to render this 90 min project.

I did make the chnages in prefs as suggested and this time it got to 33 mins (6.3GB) and gave me the following error:

“Error occured while creating media file xxxx.mt2
Reason for error could not be determind”

Any clue as to what that means?

I am rendering to the same RAID drive as the project clips are located on and there is plent of disk space (over 500GB). I really don’t want to piece together my projects in 30 minutes chuncks. I’m tired of work-a-rounds as in other programs.

    Thanks again for the input.
