In a new project I started a few days ago, Vegas is now crashing. While editing and moving the timeline marker (dragging it forward or backwards), Vegas locks up and leaves me with the hourglass. I also just let it play and after a few minutes the image and timeline marker froze but the audio meters were still active. Then I touched it and it crashed. This was not happening in my first project and wasn’t happening in this one until now.

This project is as basic as it can be. Simple cuts only, single camera.

    Any thoughts?

can I ask which version – if it’s version 8 or 9 do you have the ‘C’ version downloaded e.g. version 8c or 9c – if not it might be worth downloading the update, other than that does this happen if you create a new project with the same media?!? It might be an issue with a particular piece of media…

The only thing major thing that has changed was I upgraded from 9.0b to 9.0c. Now I have this project I can’t edit because it locks up.

As I just stated in the 2nd post, I just upgraded from 9.0b to 9.0c.

My second though was a possible courpt clip, I thing it froze the vieo in different places since I was scrubbing back and fourth.

I’m now just playing a different project and see if it freezes up.

This is my second Vegas project after using a different NLE for 18 years. I really like how Vegas is structured.

This happened to me in a big way recently. Vegas was crashing every few minutes. After weeks of struggle, I found out I had a bad mother board. Vegas put just enough stress on it to lock it up whereas it didn’t with simple programs.
Probably not what is happening with you but who knows. I was blaming Vegas when it was my computer board. Just a thought.

I just added a lot of raw footage to my hard drives and 9.c is doing the same thing that yours is – crashing every few minutes if I move too fast. I have 3 1TB drives so you would think that would not be the cause and yet that is the only thing that has changed. Anxious for someone to solve this. 9.d?

I had the same type of problem with some HDV footage that I imported over my home network from a windows xp computer from a sony HVR-DR60 fat32 hard drive unit that I cannot get files to import directly onto my new Dell windows 7 64bit icore7 computer. I used vegas import from hard drive feature and imported the footage directly over my home network into my windows 7 computer while the hard drive was connected to the xp computer. These imported files for some reason caused vegas to lock up and were unusable in vegas pro 9c. So then I used sony’s import video utility on the xp computer to transfer the files onto that computer from the HVR-DR 60 and then transferred to files over the home network to my windows 7 computer and the files worked fine with no problems in vegas. I don’t know if this has any bearing on others issues but I thought I would share this experience.
