I would tell you, emphatically, to lose no sleep over this. Vegas is the most powerful creation tool I’ve ever used, and I’ve been working on professional editing tools since the days before desktop. And, in thirty years I’ve had probably less than ten people ever ask me what I use anyway. If the results can speak for themselves you’ll not have to defend yourself.

Here’s my stab at your questions:

(1) You don’t have to convert anything; Vegas can do that on the fly.

(2) I would transfer the footage to your internal drive, yes.

(3) I think I would match the project settings to your iPhone files. It may not matter, but Vegas may do a better job throwing away frames from the higher frame rate than interpolating new frames from the lower one.

(4) I don’t think you have to adjust source settings.

(5) I’m not sure what “bouncing” a file is, but don’t over-think things; Vegas is very powerful, and you should be able to add all your effects, transitions and graphics in one big mixing bowl. In a realtime preview it’s gonna look clunky because it’s got a lot to think about all of a sudden, but render it and all’s good.

(6) You might search the forum for DVD info, because it’s all there. You’re probably looking at MPEG2 and (I forget) for audio, because I haven’t had to burn a DVD in a couple of years.

Hey Steve–

I know how to make a loop region, but I can’t figure out how your response answers my question.

Can you please look at the “A” and “B” scenarios I described? I’m trying to find out what makes the playhead either jump to a new indicated spot as it’s playing, or not jump, and how to make it do one or the other.

Hey Jim–

Sounds very much like what I’ve experienced all along with my v10 (tried v12, too, to see if it went away. It didn’t).

It only happens with WAV files (all WAV files), but I’ll get what you get and worse… I’ll get parts of intended audio, then redlining static, then parts of audio that isn’t even in the same project folder.

I have to take EVERYTHING into SoundForge and convert to AIF.

When you say you’re trying to upload, do you mean “make a file to upload” or “upload a file to Comcast”?

My latest spec sheet says that MPEG-2 is a preferred format, and I’ve got the Comcast mother ship upload instructions if you want to email me for it.
