September 15, 2012 at 2:28 pm in reply to: Final Cut Studio 2 Mountain Lion 10.8 InstallCreating a Disk Image isn’t too hard. I just used this link as a reference and selected the Snow Leopard CD as the source to image:
https://www.macinstruct.com/node/91
Once you have the disk image the only thing you need to install on your new MBP with Mountain Lion in order for the FCP Install to boot is the Optional Install option of Rosetta from Snow Leopard install. Once you have that installed you should be fine to run FCP install.
Since the new MacBooks don’t have an optical CD/DVD drive I’d recommend making a disk image of all your software that exists CDs to make your life easier in case you ever have to re-install software in the future.
This should work. Everything has been really smooth for me so far…

August 29, 2012 at 6:40 am in reply to: Final Cut Studio 2 Mountain Lion 10.8 InstallHi Jeff, thanks for the reply.
I actually have discovered a work around that appears to be working…
I got a copy of Snow Leopard and made a disk image of that onto an external hard drive. I used that disk image on my new MacBook Pro and ran the optional install of Rosetta. Once Rosetta was installed, FCP Studio 2 installed without a hitch and has been working fine all day on Mountain Lion.
I have not installed any of my 3rd party FCP plug-ins yet as I’m afraid of stability issues. I’m going to wait for others to be the guinea pigs in that department since I finally have this working now…
I’m so comfortable in FCP Studio 2 that changing over or going to FCPX seemed counter productive to me. This is working just fine for now so I’m good.

October 18, 2011 at 4:10 pm in reply to: Anybody else having problems with magic bullet looks and denoiser in FCP?I too get absolutely no results in FCP using Denoiser. I just purchased the Magic Bullet Suite 2011 and all of the other plug-ins appear to be working fine, but Denoiser won’t do anything for me no matter how extreme I adjust the quality settings.
I’m beginning to think something is wrong with my plug-in or the install?
Any help out there?

Yeah it plays back just fine in the camera, in Transfer and Browser. That is what’s weird to me. Is it possible to copy the clip from within the camera? Thanks!

Thanks Craig. I am trying to drag and drop the .mp4 from the original source media to the desktop in Finder and it gets about 10% there and then freezes up every time. Is there a better method of copying it?

Thank you all for your guidance. I found out from the dub house that the 10 Bit Uncompressed file is in fact just fine for playback on their RAIDed system, and that a ProRes file would have also given the same results (with probably a smaller file size as well). Either way, the problem has been solved. I think i will just keep everything ProRes moving forward and just avoid a hassle all together. Thanks!

Hi David,
Thanks for your quick response! I do NOT have an 8-drive RAID system so I am fully assuming that to be the issue based on your response and my additional research.
I kind of phrased that wrong I think, the 10 Bit Uncompressed file isn’t actually for the client, but for the dub house to export the best quality for HD Cam tapes to be delivered to the client. The guy at the dub house specifically requested that format so I am assuming him to have much higher end equipment than me to handle this. That would make more sense right?
In your opinion, what would you say would be the best quality QT file for playback on a non-RAIDed system?

December 15, 2009 at 5:16 am in reply to: Exporting Sony XDCAM EX Footage from FCP???Yeah I guess I should have specified. The clips are not on the SxS cards anymore. The BPAV folders are backed up on one drive and the clips have been imported into FCP on another. I think this Calibrated Software is the perfect solution for this situation just for them to scrub through the files.

December 15, 2009 at 5:00 am in reply to: Exporting Sony XDCAM EX Footage from FCP???We actually tried that and although VLC usually will play ANYTHING it won’t play XDCAM EX clips…
I just got an answer from Shane Ross on the Apple Support Forums though and it lies within this software:

September 29, 2009 at 1:35 am in reply to: New Install FCP 6.0.6 – No XDCAM 720P Easy Set Up???Yeah this works. It prompts me to change the timeline settings to match the source footage settings. I just find it weird that it doesn’t offer 720P as an easy set up…
