  • Exporting Sony XDCAM EX Footage from FCP???

I have some Sony XDCAM EX 720P30 footage that I need someone to be able to view on a Mac that does not have any NLE software – only QuickTime. Exporting the clips out of FCP wraps them in a .MXF format that is only viewable with a newer NLE software correct?

There HAS to be a way to export these so they are viewable some how on a Mac with no NLE right? Am I missing something here?

Google “VLC”. Is a free player that plays almost anything.

We actually tried that and although VLC usually will play ANYTHING it won’t play XDCAM EX clips…

I just got an answer from Shane Ross on the Apple Support Forums though and it lies within this software:

I hang out here too. My face is up there at the top.

I just saw the question there first.

    Hi Kellen
You are right but this is weird.
VLC ca reads the MP4 files from the SxS cards, but not the same file once re-wrapped as .mov.
    I’ve learnt something new.
    Calibrated sure can do it.

Yeah I guess I should have specified. The clips are not on the SxS cards anymore. The BPAV folders are backed up on one drive and the clips have been imported into FCP on another. I think this Calibrated Software is the perfect solution for this situation just for them to scrub through the files.
