Reading StreamingMedia’s Compressor 4.1 First Look has put me off… If this is accurate I can’t feel confident of getting consistent results. Surely that’s fundamental to any encoding software?!

Sorry to butt in but can you tell me where to find this updated kernel? I’ve never been able to get past the USB not connected message in 10.6, so have been booting 10.5 any time I wanted to calibrate, and I’m getting pretty bored with that.

Also, HP recommend a gamma of 2.4 for Rec.709, as they found it the closest match to Sony BVM CRTs. The EBU recommend 2.35. Others will tell you 2.5.

An After Effects version would be good for various workflows.

  • Mike Stroven: “I guess this “expert” wasn’t there when they decided that the 24fps rate for NTSC video was 23.98 instead of the actual pull-down NTSC video rate is 23.976

It’s actually 24/1.001. It’s just a case of where you decide to round it.

J Hussar: “I won’t call you what I feel like calling you after that rank insult to Chris – your last name covers it, thankfully.

Thanks. I can see that’s the kind of level-headed guy you are.

I came here today hoping that, five days after its release, there’d be less purposeless moaning and more commentary from those who’ve spent some time using FCPX, on the good and bad, clarifying some of the maybe-hasty assumptions, and perhaps some informed discussion on what we could expect it to develop into over the coming months.

    Too soon?

This isn’t a dig, and I’m not completely disregarding your concern, but 2011 is not the time to be basing your career on having access to technologies others don’t have.

What a waste of internet bandwidth.

  • Thunderbolt (in its current iteration) is slower than all four PCI-E slots in the Mac Pro. It doesn’t have the bandwidth for GPUs or Blackmagic’s Decklink 4K or AJA’s Ryker.

  • Whilst not exactly standard tutorial stuff, I think what we all need is some concrete…

How much control do I have over where and how I keep my assets? Is FCPX going to pressurise me like a car salesman to keep them in my Movies folder on my OS drive?

Can I select a series of folders to populate my Events? I’m as interested in excluding as in including.

Is there any alternative to ‘storylines’?

Can I arrange audio into dialogue, SFX, music tracks?

How do we move projects between machines?

I believe 1-1-1 is Rec.709 — so just what you want for HD video.
