    Thanks for the reply.

I’m wondering if we’d got our wires crossed when you said “the LHi cannot access anything from the graphics card that came with your computer.”

The easiest way to state my question might be in the form of a scenario:

I need output over HDMI to be RGB (for reasons that would only serve to complicate matters if explained).

Say I am editing ProRes in FCP. Can I instruct the LHi to turn that YCbCr into RGB for HDMI viewing output?

I then send the ProRes timeline to Color. With Color using the GPU to do its work, can the LHi access that image in its RGB form, rather than letting the GPU convert back to YCbCr and the LHi then converting it back to RGB for output?

And a similar question if I was working with (1920×1080) DPX files in Color — would I get bona fide RGB, rather than RGB (DPX files) converted to YCbCr by the GPU, then converted to RGB again by the LHi?

Can’t FCP only address 4GB of RAM? What other software do you have running?

  • You seem to know what the FireStore is for, but not what the DeckLink is for. The DeckLink enables you to capture from high-quality tape sources and to accurately monitor the image. You don’t want to — and currently don’t have the option to, seen as the DVX doesn’t have SDI outputs — capture over SDI.

If you anticipate working with DigiBeta or HDCam, or wanting to accurately grade your footage some time soon, then the DeckLink is worth hanging on to. If you don’t, you’d probably be better off with the FireStore.

But before you rush out and buy that, it might be worth having a proper think as to whether you really need either…

I’ve requested genuine 25p in the past. I agree with Sebastian that in 2009 it is not a rare format. Ian, what version of the Extreme are you using. I have the second iteration and it only outputs PsF (i.e. interlaced).

Thanks for the replies everyone. AJA are making it pretty clear all their new stuff supports 10-bit and RGB over HDMI. I’m assuming the same is true over SDI, but I’m not certain. They state support for SMPTE424M. I’m not sure whether that could be used solely to denote 4:2:2 50/60p or whether RGB support is necessarily included in it…

All I needed to know. Thanks for the reply.

To bring it back on topic, the LHi will output RGB, right? Specs on their site list input/output of SMPTE424M and RGB over HDMI.

It’s the latter I’m mainly concerned with. I’m doing mostly file-based stuff, grading on an HP LP2480zx, and need the output over HDMI to be RGB. With this card, Color and DPX files, am I going to get that?
