I saw an XPRI in real life. Creative Group in NYC had one. They were a big Sony linear edit house and they got one pretty early on. I kind of think it was a demo unit… It was very limited. We had to jump through hoops to get footage on and off of it IIRC.

April 29, 2016 at 3:29 pm in reply to: NAB 2016: What is standing the test of time? (The 1 Week Edition)Interesting. After reading your post, Tim, and scanning through the thread, I see a lot of people mention “storage”, but I saw no one write about Symply Storage.
Being in the market segment that I’m in, using big stornext file systems for shared post environments, I know of peers who were leery of seeing what these guys were announcing because of history. I didn’t have a good reaction to the tease of the new company either, to be perfectly honest.
I have to say, after seeing what they announced I was pleasantly surprised. It’s not a product for me or the facility I run, but it is basically an easy to set up, miniaturized version of what I run. This was never a possibility before. And the beauty of it is that is just an easy thunderbolt connection to the clients.
The coolest part to me is that I think they can develop a nice little ecosystem on the box (the base unit) for cool ad ons. These ad ons will help the little studio do business in a way that has never really been possible or affordable for them before.
We saw a company last year that had a small thunderbolt san. This Symply thing is different, and pretty well thought out.
I’m anxious to see how they do.
There were other things, but I’d bore this group with those details.

[John Davidson] “crazy expensive app”
$199 IBC special! not too expensive as far as MAMs (or even baby MAMs) go.

Chad! What’s happening man?!?
Unfortunately, I never found a good solution to that problem. IIRC FCP7 did retain them. I’m curious if PP or DR12 retain them.

Hey David,
No sickness for me, but I noticed a lot of people were not well. My problem with Vegas is that it is just becoming more and more disgusting to me. Or perhaps I’m just getting too old for it. I can’t take walking through another Casino filled with people in wheel chairs and oxygen tubes to the nose while smoking. And when a bottle of water costs $6, that’s just too greedy. I’d like to see it moved every other year to a different location but I don’t think that is possible with booths stored there and the amount of housing necessary to hold the attendees. Perhaps I’ll start alternating between NAB and IBC every other year.

We are using roles extensively inside of fcpx. We actually start each project by importing an xml that has all of our house roles attached to some bars and tone clips. This way it stays standardized. Those roles travel to audio and then final audio gets roled when it returns.
We also mine the QT Author tag that fcpx inserts on export as well as the tags metadata. These things get mined from QT and automatically inserted into our MAM.
All very important “metadata”, but maybe not the keywords and such that is more typical of the term.
