You need to download the Kona driver version 5 and use QT 7.3.1.

However FCP is compressing the black gamma area of 10 bit RGB 444 clips in your project, so now the clips will play but they suck in the blacks.

Just upgraded to 7.3.1 and driver 5 for kona 3, I was finally able to play back my 10bit RGB 444 project and was thinking that finally all was well again when I noticed that my clips were being compressed in the black gamma range.

Check it out, take bars with pluge or a grayscale and put in on the timeline and look at the black gamma area from 0 all the way up to 50 and you’ll notice on the external HDSDI scope what I’m talking about.

I discovered this while I was doing round trips from Color trying to see if there were any shifts, there actually still are shifts but very border line, a purist might be right to refuse to use it and rightly so but it’s so awfully close that I’m tempted. It was during these looks that I discovered the problem with RGB.

When looking at bars with pluge the pluge above the 0 and below the 0 are gone, compressed and clipped, which means I still can’t finish my online for this particular project, as my deadline nears I must decide to finish in 422 and gluetools myself up to dpx for a film out.

Too bad FCP is still not ready for the silver screen with any sort of accuracy or integrity.

Is this still an issue, or has it been addressed?

The Metasan support guys fixed my raid remotely from Europe, it took over a week and their support team included around three engineers who remotly controlled my system and stayed with it untill they completely fixed it. I have never been so impressed with a company’s support program as I have with the folks at Metasan (Tiger Technologies). I have never experienced anything like it in my entire professional career. They even came out with an update to the software that will prevent this from ever happening again and it wasn’t even their fault, Apple’s changes to the Intel Mac Pro’s software probably caused the loss in the first place. The metasan people provided me first class support and fixed my storage. If anyone is thinking of getting Metasan they can be confident that they’ll be in the best hands. I hate to use the term “in this day and age” but you don’t see this kind of service anymore anywhere. I salute them. I am a greatful Metasan user and highly reccommend them.

    Bernard,

I have been happy with my Metasan system. I added a Mac pro to the mix. Everything was fine except that when the Mac Pro was disconnected from the system it would have problems shutting down, I would have to do a hard shutdown to turn it off. Tonight after I pulled the Mac Pro from the system to replace some Ram it again had problems shutting down and I just figured that was because it was on the bench away from the SAN. I finished adding ram and then brought it back to the rack wired it back in, started the entire san starting the Mac Pro system first so it’d be the master as I usually have done and everything worked fine. At the end of the session I shut everything down as usual (master last) and all seemed fine until I returned back to work and fired up the system again (Mac Pro first), it failed to see the shared storage, none of the clients could either, no matter which system I booted first to become master. Before Metasan if I had a directory problem I could use Disk Warrior but now with the san protection, Disk Warrior sees the disconected raid as an unknown disk. Is there anyway to remove the protection or is there a way to remove Metasan from the host and still be able to connect it to the raid? I would connect just one computer at a time, just in case Disk Warrior might see the drive to repair it. I never had any of these problems when I was just running G5s, the Mac Pro has been problamatic when running Metasan, when Metasan is removed it’ll boot and shutdown when unconnected to the san just as it’s supposed to.

What else might you suggest I try to save my raid?

    Thanks, Keith
