Flavoursys/Strawbery works fine with FCPX 10.0, but we have to add a metadata server to our system so that it works with Mavericks and FCP 10.1. Then new version of Strawberry, 4.0, is going to be a great improvement over the current version, but I believe it’s still in Beta testing.

I saw a contest like this on editstock.com, a few moths ago. Their main page has a free sample scene.
In their articles section, the top post has 5 different versions of the same footage cut by different editors, that was talked about in a recent webcast.

  • I’ve encountered this problem, when the pixel aspect doesn’t match the timeline. Switch your project view to view as list and scroll sideways until you reach pixel aspect. Here you can select all you graphics that are wrong, and you can change them to whatever size works, typically setting them to square works for me.

We’ve found some really good tracks at premiumbeat.com, it’s well organized, and you can get the full track or a few different sets on most of their music.

Try putting the replay and transition graphics into a nested sequence. Make the sequence around 15 seconds or so, depending on your average length of replays. Add markers to line up the in an out cut points. Adjust end graphic timing as needed.

  • Welcome to the Mac side.
I’m using FCP 7 so I hope this translates to you.
Assuming your audio and video tracks aren’t locked together(Shift L can toggle this), I’d use the slip and slide tool (S) an then use the play around current () feature. I believe the default setting is 5 seconds before and 2 seconds after, but that can be changed in the User Preferences/ Editing tab. It’s not quite a loop, but it’s as close as I know how.
    Good luck!

Customs also tends to have fun breaking drives open looking for contraband.
I’ve had to split my timelines up so the exports will fit on DVDs for one client.

May 13, 2011 at 4:25 pm in reply to: Thin black border around QT clip in FCP

If you turn on Image + wireframe, you’ll likely see that it’s not a black boarder, at least on the sides, but just black showing through.
Also check you’re motion tab to see if it’s at 100%. FCP likes to scale things to height, and with this already being letterboxed, I suspect you have unnecessary pixels at the top and bottom of the footage.

  • Your issues with “Play Base Layer Only” and “Record to Tape” has to do with your Photo JPEG use as well.
If you use a natively supported sequence codec, such as DV, DVCPROHD, XDCAM HD, ProRes.. then it uses FCP’s RT platback engine (Unlimited RT) … but if you use an unsupported codec, like Animation, Photo JPEG, None … then you’ll have the different drop down menu.

Check a previous project to see if this issue is the same.

December 15, 2010 at 5:24 am in reply to: FCP to Compressor Settings 14 hrs to Encode???

    I also question your settings,
    Width: 1440
    Height: 1080
Pixel aspect ratio: HDV 1080i (16:9)

Those aren’t standard DVD settings, try
    Width and Height: Automatic
    Selected: 720 x 480
Pixel aspect ratio: NTSC CCIR 601/DV (16:9)
