    Not something that I’ve done, but here’s pretty detailed information on implementing something like this with CSS:

    Simplest to copy/paste a similar-looking selection of hair where the problem doesn’t exist, then blend the edges with a layer mask. The top-front hair would likely work here.

  • Yes, if you used Photoshop shape layers, you get this result.

  • Maybe I should clarify that it is really just ONE animated shape, duplicated and offset in time, so that two instances are visible at some points. So you just animate a single shape, duplicate it and then strategically place it on the timeline for seamless looping. Well, all you should need to do is offset the second copy so that the other end of the shape aligns with the null.

  • Do you want to add the values together so that you get both motions with your controller, the horizontal motion with the x value plus the arched vertical motion with the y value combined at the same time? So as to control this animation completely with the controller, ignoring actual timeline time altogether?

    If that’s the aim, you could do it like this. In this implementation the keyframes are exactly at 0,1,2 and 3 seconds and there’s a layer named “controller” with a 3D point controller on it. This adds the two motions together. 0-100 range for both x and y animations.

    controller = thisComp.layer("controller").effect("3D Point Control")("3D Point");
    c_x = controller[0];
    c_y = controller[1];
    t1 = linear(c_x,0,100,0,1);
    t2 = linear(c_y,0,100,2,3);
    pos1 = transform.position.valueAtTime(t1);
    pos2 = transform.position.valueAtTime(t2)-transform.position.valueAtTime(2);
    pos = pos1+pos2;

    If you’re into plugins, you can control 3D displacement in Freeform Pro, Mir, Form, etc. with luma maps.

    If you don’t have any lines or markings from which to see the perspective in the original photo, it is pretty hit and miss. If there’s a round plate on a white background there’s no way of telling the exact angle you need to match.

    However, if you do know the angle, you can use the lens correction filter: in the custom tab set the vertical distortion to 33 degrees, and you will get that exact transformation. You can use the scale option in the same dialogue to fill the whole background as needed.

  • Use the following for the right face position value:

    z = thisComp.layer("Control").effect("Z Movement")("Slider")-100;
    x = content("Rectangle 1").content("Rectangle Path 1").size[0];
    x = x/2+z;
    y = content("Rectangle 1").content("Rectangle Path 1").size[1];
    y = y/-2+z*.685;
    [x,y];

    Why the multiplier is .685 is unclear to me but that figure works.

  • It sounds like you’ve got some fills with clipping paths there. Did you source the Illustrator file from a PDF perhaps? That could create such.
