    It was pretty minor. You just have to change “L” to an “i” on line 5
    (Missing a bunch of semicolons at the ends of the lines, that may have some effect as well.)

  • Additionally, you can manually move the anchor point in Scene Setup by using the lock transformations toggle in the toolbar unders the preview. The Gizmo turns orange and you can drag it to move it where you need to. Use the planar views to align with better precision.

  • You could get away with tracking three points on the car and using one as anchor point and the other two strategically placed for scale and 3D rotation. Matching perspective will be tricky as will figuring out how much the relative distances of the tracked points affect the rotation of the object. But it can work; I’ve done that in a scene where no amount of AE 3D tracking would make an object stick to a moving person.

  • Try this

    X = text.sourceText;
    F = Math.round(time*effect("Blink Speed")("Slider") % 1);
    L = X.length;
    T = time*effect("Speed")("Slider") - effect("Start At")("Slider")*effect("Speed")("Slider");

    Cursor = " ";
    if (F==1 | T>0) Cursor = "_";
    if (T>=L) Cursor = " ";
    if (T>0) X.substr(0,T) + Cursor
    else Cursor

    xd *= xd is shorthand for xd = xd * xd, in the same fashion as xd += 5 is shorthand for xd = xd + 5.

    Considering you need to rotate the text layer around its anchor point to keep it horizontal, you can’t move it in the center of the comp. I guess you could do it in reverse, calculating with sourceRectAtTime the rotation point for the text that is in the center of the text layer like the anchor point currently is. To me it seems like a more complicated method of achieving the same result.

    Since the text and the circles are on separate layers, I don’t know why this would be an issue. Just need to drag the text layer to the original position in the center of the circle first. But maybe you have other things going on in the animation which I don’t know of that make the situation more complicated.

    You can use sourceRectAtTime() for this. See tutorial here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kI3yzx6CATg

    If you just need to draw a part of the path, you can use trim paths to limit the stroke to a percentage of the path.

  • What I would do to get something similar to this would be a loop from 25 frames back to the current frame, taking the value of the speed meter at that time, then moving 10% toward the value of the speed meter at each frame until the current time. That way you get something that is very close to what you have in mind but it wouldn’t have to go all the way back to the first frame of the comp. Visually the result would be very similar (93% the same with 25 frames).

    Are you using hold keyframes? If not, it may be that that some of the keyframes are not aligned exactly to frames, i.e. they are between frames so as to throw off the precision, the slider value being close to but not exactly the expected value. This can happen when converting frame rates (or possibly even when outputting to a different frame rate, although not sure about that). Another possibility is keyframe interpolation if you’re not using hold or linear. Viewing the slider values in graph view would tell you if this is the case.

    Depending on what else is happening in your comp, this either works or it doesn’t…

    A few prereqs:
    1) The anchor point of the text layer is centered on the text layer and
    2) the original position of the text is at the anchor point of the shape layer,

    That being the original situation, the text layer position follows the rotation value of “Ellipse 1” in the shape layer with this:

    xd = thisComp.layer("Shape Layer 1").content("Ellipse 1").transform.position[0];
    yd = thisComp.layer("Shape Layer 1").content("Ellipse 1").transform.position[1];
    xd *= xd;
    yd *= yd;
    d = Math.sqrt(xd+yd);
    xpos = -d * Math.sin(degreesToRadians(thisComp.layer("Shape Layer 1").transform.rotation));
    ypos = d * Math.cos(degreesToRadians(thisComp.layer("Shape Layer 1").transform.rotation));
    value-[xpos, ypos]

    So, essentially, were adding the position transformation of the rotating Ellipse 1 to the position of the text layer.
