  • There are at least 6-8 layers of effects piled on top of another there, the main one being the deformed concentric circles, which I assume is your main effect of interest. While there are ways to achieve that without any plugins, it will likely be easier with one; Trapcode Mir and Form are good candidates for this.

    How about: Effects&Presets panel>Animation presets>Vignette Lighting

  • The property.valueAtTime(time-x) expression is your friend here. For example, to make Layer 2 rotation follow Layer 1’s rotation with a one-second delay, you would use this for Layer 2 rotation:
    thisComp.layer("Layer 1").transform.rotation.valueAtTime(time-1)

    You can make a new 3D null and parent all 3D layers including the camera to it, scale the null down to any size (such as 10%) and then remove parenting. The result should be the entire scene reduced in size (to 10% or whatever) but looking exactly the same through the camera, since everything has been scaled proportionately.

    Actually, since the camera is parented, you can just parent the camera’s parent, no need to parent the camera itself.

    September 26, 2018 at 10:53 am in reply to: Is there a way to Keyframe a Texture in Element 3D

    A few ways, depending on what you need to accomplish.

    1) Directly in the Effect Controls you can only keyframe the UV offset.

    2) As I recall, if you set two different materials for the two groups in Animation engine, it will interpolate between them.

    3) The most flexible approach is to use AE layers as texture maps in Element. This way anything you do in the layers will update in Element.

    September 26, 2018 at 8:08 am in reply to: Using Date() to convert ISO 8601 time to UTC

    Finding no explanation as to why the other input format doesn’t work in AE, but inputting the date in this format works:

    txt = "August 6, 2018 00:00:00";
    date = new Date(txt);
    parsed = date.toString();
    parsed

    I realize that doesn’t really help much with your original issue. Unless someone knows a better way, it looks like you will have to write a more complex expression to convert the ISO 8601 time to the desired format.

    Hi, yes, how the heck did I miss that? It gives the same wrong output date at my end. Talk about looking at the details to miss the big picture. I don’t have an immediate answer to as to why, but I can take a look if I can find something that would explain it.
