I am not convinced that I understand how the animation is supposed to look; pictures would be good.

Do you have to do this multiple times with different texts or is this a one-off?

If a one-off, how about just animating with ease between the start and end points and using a master null for overall motion, if there is such?

It is just a bunch of rectangles with a texture inside them. First they are stacked in, then removed. I guess you could do it in a complicated manner, such as using Particular to emit them, but all you really need is a bunch of layers filled with symbols like that and rectangular masks on them and stack them to show up one frame after the previous layer adn then disappear in the same manner. The bottom layers are scaled smaller than the top ones.

  • Two nulls, Null 1 to control the center of rotation and overall placement of brush, Null 2 for the rotating motion.

    Null 2 position expression
    thisComp.layer("Null 1").transform.position+[200*Math.cos(time*5), 100*Math.sin(time*5)]

Parent the brush to null 2. Adjust values for your needs.

You can add a wiggle to the position of Null 1 to give it some variation.

  • It’s possible, but it’s a pain in the bottom. See my response in this thread.

tldr: will take rendering at least 16 or 32 frames per each final frame for it to start to look anything resembling properly stereographic.

Also, forgot to mention it there, in order to view it in Oculus or HTC Vive at decent quality, you need to render at 8K. I have a pretty decent computer and still cannot run 8K stereo VR video in real time. 4K works but looks pixelated.

I would use the Turbulence Field settings, not the spin. Set the Scale low, around 1.5 and the Affect Position to 500. For the particle rotation, Random Rotation 100 and Random Speed rotation 1.0 will take care of the particle rotation nicely.

No way to determine which side of the particle is showing, but if you make half the particles white, it will give the same impression and few people will notice the trick.

October 30, 2018 at 7:11 pm in reply to: mask mode/layer behavior is annoying.

I’ve used PS for 25 years and I’ve never used quick mask. I find it a useless feature. It is much better to make both the RGB channels and the mask channel visible through the channels palette, select and work directly on the mask channel with the paintbrush and other tools while viewing both the image and the mask. Looks exactly the same, but that way you work directly on the mask instead of switching between a live selection and a temporary mask.

Also, why cut anything when you can keep the layer mask and retain editability ad infinitum?

I’m afraid that’s just the thumbnail cache image that was saved when you originally copied the files to the disc. That doesn’t mean there’s anything else left of those files, if you have saved over them using the original file name. There is no archive of earlier versions unless you have manually archived them elsewhere or have set up a scheduled archiving system for files.

IF the files are on an external hard disc AND the original files were there as well, you can try a file recovery software to see if there’s anything recoverable on that disc, but don’t get your hopes up, especially if you’ve filled up that hard disc with other files or used that disc much otherwise. The chances of anything being there decrease every time you write something new to the disc.

Not sure what the question is, but if you want a 3000 pixel document, you need to resize the canvas to 3000 pixels.

  • You want to EXPORT to SVG, not save as. Save as prioritizes keeping the file editable in Illustrator, exporting prioritizes optimizing the file for web. See details here:

Yes, you can output from AE as a GIF animation.

Can you create a single-layer example of how you’re doing this and upload the project? That way we’ll be able to tell why it doesn’t seem to work.
